Beyonce to star in 'A Star is Born,' directed by Clint Eastwood
Deadline is reporting some surprising casting news that just might trump the Anne Hathaway/Catwoman headlines.
Beyonce has been cast in a remake of "A Star is Born," to be directed by Clint Eastwood.
This marks the biggest starring role to date for the former member of Destiny's Child, who has either been part of an ensemble or turned in supporting performances in previous films like "Dreamgirls," "Cadillac Records" and "Obsessed." In this film, she would definitely be the above-the-marquee name in an extraordinarily juicy role.
"A Star is Born" -- the story of a talented, ambitious starlet whose career transforms thanks to the alcoholic, aging actor who falls in love with her -- debuted in 1937 with Janet Gaynor in the lead role, was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and then remade again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand.
Can Beyonce meet or raise the acting bar set by her predecessors? Is Eastwood a good choice for this project? And who should play the male lead? (Nikki Finke already has thrown out P. Diddy, Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm as potential options.)
