'Big Love' returns to TV on the worst night ever

Sister wives: Ginnifer Goodwin, left, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Chloe Sevigny.
I'm not sure what HBO was thinking, but the pay cable network will launch the fifth and final season of "Big Love" on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. Just in time for, umm, The Golden Globes which will be well underway on NBC. Maybe HBO execs thought there wouldn't be much overlap between the Globes-watching audience and fans of the sorta-satirical polygamous drama.
Although last season ended with (as per usual) a cliffhanger -- Bill publicly outed himself as a polygamist after winning an election to the Utah State Senate -- I'm guessing Paxton and his trio of now-public wives (above) just ain't gonna outdraw the first major awards show of the season.
So, fellow "Big Love" fans, set your DVRs now.

That is a remarkably bad picture of Chloe Sevigny - she looks like a man in drag.

I completely agree with the commenters -- Big Love hasn't been all that big since it knocked off Roman Grant and, frankly, the picture of Chloe Sevigny looks like, well, a man OR a woman in drag. WHAT was she THINKING? And vamping? And remember, she probably paid someone to put that look together... hilarious even though I think she's a terrific actress.

I am hoping to love some "Big Love" again this "season." That last season was pretty uniformly miserable. And hey - follow the link 'Big Love' ending to the Lisa de Moraes column to see some heavy duty snark from series creator, Mark V. Olsen - wow!
