As strange as it sounds you can exacerbate a hernia by laughing hard, coughing, sneezing, picking up something a little too heavy. I have 2 hernias now that my doctors say don't need treatment unless they start to cause me pain. Now, whether that's what happened to Charlie is anybody's guess, but it is possible.

Not to defend Charlie Sheen, but I had double hernias that required surgery, and before I had it laughing hard would make them hurt, as would, lets just say, not getting enough fiber in my diet. Now, it never hurt enough that I rushed to the hospital, but, if part of his intestine came out through the hole, that would be reason to get to a hospital.
