Charlie Sheen sets new Twitter record; Selena Gomez not punched by a Justin Bieber fan

By Jen Chaney

In all sincerity... Thank you Twitter community for the warm reception & the followers that helped get me to 1M in 24 hours!!!

A look at some of the celebrity and pop culture stories on my radar...

Charlie Sheen has set a new Guinness World Record by amassing 1 million Twitter followers in 25 hours and 17 minutes. Apparently there is no previous record holder in the category, so Sheen is the first to hold the honor. Yes, this is what winning looks like. (Mashable)

From the dept. of things that didn't actually happen: Selena Gomez was not punched by a Justin Bieber fan. Her rep confirms that the rumors, circulating on Twitter and elsewhere about the cause of what appears to be a Gomez fat lip, are untrue. (People)

From the dept. of things that did happen: Justin Bieber has apologized to fans for giving the paparazzi the finger. During the same media melee that prompted the rumors that Gomez had become the victim of Bieber Fever, the pop star lost his composure and flipped the bird at some photographers. He tweeted his regrets: "had a great bday and at the end of the night we got surrounded by paps and i reacted in a way i know better. im sorry #killthemwithkindness." Like all intense pop star scrums, it happened outside a Maggiano's. (Popeater)

Lady Gaga does her little turn on the catwalk in Paris. (New York Times)

Another addition to the "Superman" cast and a look at the most paused moments in movie history, after the jump...

Diane Lane joins cast of new "Superman" movie. She'll play Martha Kent, Earth-bound mother of the Man of Steel. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Are these really the 10 most paused moments in movie history? Because the Internet wants to know why Phoebe Cates emerging from a swimming pool in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" isn't on the list. (Lovefilm via Slashfilm)

Watch "Nolanography," a pretty cool video tribute to Christopher Nolan's films, via Buzzfeed:

I can't access the most-paused moments, but my husband insists that Sharon Stone's leg-crossing scene in Basic Instinct has to be #1. Me, I think it was all a bunch of hoo-hah.

Yes, list FAIL without the Phoebe Cates scene from Fast Times.

The fact that Guiness even has a category for fastest to 1 million twitter followers is surely a sign of the apocalypse.

Or maybe it is the whole Bieber Fever thing. Just not sure.

Also I know is that if I was Superman and my mom was Diane Lane I'd develop enough Oedipal issues to give Frederick Wertham enough material for a second book.

Who pauses a VCR (or DVD) anymore? Isn't that what google image search is for?

The Beiber might've punched Selena Gomez? Ooh chick fight!

I can't hope to surpass any of Dorkus' remarks this morning. Nice work.

I might add, though, that if Diane Lane were Supe's mom, not only would he have those Oedipal issues, poor mom would have exceeded her lifetime dose of x-ray radiation by the time she was 35 and Superman would have Super Carpal Tunnel syndrome, primarily in his left wrist.

Did Bree Olson drive Charlie Sheen's children? As Charlie Sheen's girl, does Bree Olson have a valid drivers license? After all, Bree Olson would be a great driver, Bree has been involved in a few car accidents. Will Bree Olson be going to rehab with Charlie Sheen? Who needs the rehab?

Life will once again resume against the backdrop of our new national obsession- the coming and goings of two 17 year old children. Which begs the obvious question, how long before every teenager in America hires their own public relations team?
