Britney Spears debuts 'Hold It Against Me' video/infomercial
In her latest video, Britney Spears arrives on earth -- an alien, we presume -- to spread the message of consumerism. Music videos -- at their most basic level -- are ads. Ads for the artists featured therein. Spears, in her just-released video for her new single "Hold It Against Me," has taken that concept one step beyond self-promotion and into the realm of product placement. Is she the first performer to push product? No. Think of the effect Run DMC had on Adidas back in the early '80s. But she does seem to be breaking ground with undisguised, un-subtle in-video brand cameos. Of course Brit's own perfume gets a money shot, but so does Make Up Forever (available at Sephora), dating site PlentyofFish.com and Sony. All of whom, we imagine, defrayed the costs of making an over-the-top music video with lots of pyrotechnic effects....

Britney Spears named ultimate gay icon
Correction: It turns out this blog item was based on a bogus news report. We knew it sounded to absurd to be true. Thank you for SFGN's Jason Parsley for the fact-checking. -- Feb. 23 ---- Britney Spears, icon. (Associated Press) The last time we checked, Britney Spears was not gay. Nor was she known for being particularly adored by the gay community. Yet in a poll by the Orange County Equality Project, Spears was named the "Greatest Gay Icon of All Time." Spears apparently beat President Obama and Cher to win the title. We can only conclude that Orange County, Calif., is home of a micro-saturation of gay BritBrit fans who are all extremely motivated voters. Either that or they thought they were voting for Lady Gaga. Britney Spears, 'Femme Fatale,' tweets pic of new album cover
Since Britney Spears has 6,737,793 Twitter followers and counting, we're going to go ahead and assume that there's some interest in her new album cover. Well, the wait is over. Moments ago -- after posting a series of cryptic tweets ("Sexy and strong," "dangerous yet mysterious," "cool yet confident," "cheezy yet trite" -- okay we made that last one up), Brit shared this photo of her new album cover which is cleverly and originally titled "Femme Fatale": In January, we got a preview with the single "Hold It Against Me." Expect the full album to drop in March....

Britney Spears rep denies abuse reports
Britney Spears in 2009. (AP) A rep for Britney Spears released a statement calling a Star magazine report claiming Spears had been physically abused by boyfriend Jason Trawick "completely and utterly false." The abuse allegations came from Spears's one-time husband (for 55 hours) Jason Alexander, who also provided the magazine with tapes he claimed contained audio of a conversation between Spears and him in which she admits the abuse. Radar Online released more of the purported Spears/Alexander tapes late Tuesday, though an audio expert tells TMZ.com the tapes were "doctored." "The audio recording ... purporting to be between Britney Spears and Jason Alexander is so obviously fake as to be laughable," Spears's rep told People. Today, by the way, is Brit's 29th birthday. Rumor Mill: Was Britney Spears beaten by her boyfriend?
(Courtesy Star magazine) It's been a while since we've had any drama from one-time train wreck Britney Spears. But Star magazine, in an issue out this week, claims Spears was hit by former agent/current boyfriend Jason Trawick and that she was once pregnant with his child. From what reliable source did Star receive this bombshell of a story? Spears's ex-husband. No, not Kevin Federline. The other one -- Jason Alexander, to whom she was married for 55 hours back in 2004. Alexander claims that Spears keeps in touch via phone, e-mail and texts and that she recently confided that Trawick "hit her so hard it gave her a black eye." Alexander, it should be noted, says he sold told his story to Star because he's "really concerned" for Britney. Representatives for both Spears and Trawick denied the abuse allegations when contacted by Radar Online, but the site claims to...

The Britney Spears episode of 'Glee': Is it time to lose the celeb-focused tributes?
The Britney Spears episode of "Glee" gave us the full "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" routine Tuesday night. And as the Post's Emily Yahr notes in her full recap of the episode, it delivered lots of Britney music, and even more of Brittany (Heather Morris) and her deadpan loopy dialogue, but not much face time from Spears. As "The Power of Madonna" did last season, it also raised a question: is it in "Glee's" best interest to focus entire episodes around a major musical and celebrity icon?...
