Marie Claire's Maura Kelly: Should she be fired for "fatty" comments?

A screengrab from Maura Kelly's now-defunct (but cached) Facebook fan page. Should Maura Kelly, the Marie Claire blogger at the center of a [expletive]-storm over a blog post in which she expressed her distate at watching fat people get affectionate on TV, lose her job? In case you missed the original story, Kelly drew fire earlier this week when she wrote on her Marie Claire blog that she would be, "grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other...I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything." Kelly was making reference to the new CBS show "Mike & Molly," which features two plus-size leads who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. But given the recent dismissal of Juan Williams from NPR for making derogatory comments about Muslims on the "Bill O'Reilly Show," should Kelly also get the...

Comment Box: Andrew Koenig; Miss Golden Globes; Mickey Rourke

A missing persons poster for actor Andrew Koenig is seen on a light pole in front of the Olympic Cauldron on February 24, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. (Getty Images) When I heard that Boner from "Growing Pains" was missing, my first thought was "hasn't he been missing for the past 15 years?" Does that make me a bad person? Nope, not one bit. In fact, it pretty much puts you in line with the rest of us who had vague memories of Koenig as a minor character on one of the least memorable sitcoms of the '80s. Frankly, I wouldn't have been surprised to learn Koenig was a peripheral player on "Gimme a Break" or "Small Wonder." And despite such an auspicious start in acting, Koenig's career -- at least as far as we couch potatoes were concerned -- trailed off into obscurity once he left "Growing Pains" in...

Comment Box: Oprah and Stedman over?

Oprah and Stedman attended Barack Obama's swearing in ceremony as a pair last January. (AP) Is it really true that O and Stedman are through? I hadn't heard anything about their relationship ending. Where will he go? What will he do? I guess this means she and Gail can join eharmony together. -- from last week's Celebritology Live chat Well who can ever tell with Oprah? Despite her over-emotive daily dissections of OPP (other people's problems), she manages to keep a relatively tight lid on her personal life. But here's what the rumor mill is spitting out: Word surfaced back in August -- first as a blind item -- that a longtime power couple was splitting. Soon the National Enquirer broke "news" claiming that Stedman Graham had indeed moved out of chez Oprah and into his own bachelor pad, effectively ending the couple's 20-plus year relationship. Then came word...

Rosie O'Donnell in the nanny club? I think not.

Rosie O'Donnell and Kelli Carpenter in 2003. (AP) Nannies: The new must-have accessory?: What's with all the celebs who hook up with the nanny? I didn't realize Rosie had joined the Jude Law-Ethan Hawke club too. -- from last week's Celebritology Live chat. Hmmm, maybe we should shut this one down before it picks up traction. I'm not sure where you got your information, pardner, but Rosie has been married to Kelli Carpenter -- a former Nickelodeon exec -- for the past five years. And, despite last week's news that the two have separated and will likely embark on a complicated and closely-watched divorce, I haven't seen anything attributing the split to infidelity or anyone getting overly friendly with the help. But, if you're jonesing for a list of celebs who have made a love connection at home, here's a definitive run down -- in no particular order: --...

Will California's new anti-paparazzi law have any effect?

Photographers swarm Paris Hilton's home in 2007. (Reuters) [F]ill us in on the finer points of California's new anti-paparazzi law. I am confused: does it mean no more car chases? No more shots of little kids? No more traveling in packs? (I'm not actually opposed to any of this but I'm curious to know what this does to celebrity news coverage.) -- Submitted to last week's Celebritology Live discussion Lest you think paps were free to take upskirt shots and loiter outside Beverly Hills private schools waiting to snap celeb-spawn, know that California has attempted to rein them in before. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger passed an anti-paparazzi law in 2005 meant to increase the stakes for "overly-aggressive" photographers. Several high profile celebrity/paparazzi car chases that year -- and some fender benders -- were the inspiration for toughening the state's law, originally passed in 1998 after Princess Diana died in a...

Comment Box: The Last Word on Letterman?

David Letterman in a screengrab from Monday night's 'Late Show.' (AP) A civilized debate took place during Thursday's Celebritology Live discussion about whether or not David Letterman's admitted affair with staffer Stephanie Burkitt constitutes any kind of sexual harassment. One on side, lots of readers wrote in to protest that Dave had committed any transgression worse than being an adult carrying on a relationship with another consenting adult. But others, including a healthy portion of Celebritology's surprisingly large community of lawyers, said we're missing the point, agreeing with Gloria Allred and NOW president Terry O'Neill, both of whom are calling for CBS to take action against David Letterman for creating a hostile work environment: "Why don't people get it that when Letterman sleeps with SOME staffers, it's the women he DIDN'T sleep with who got shafted (pun intended.) Did they get the same raises? Law school tuition? Extra favors?...
