Celebritology 2.0 Archive: Housekeeping

Until we meet again...

I'm not big on goodbyes, so I'll keep this short. Exactly five years ago -- the day after the 2006 Academy Awards -- Celebritology burst into life on washingtonpost.com. I'm not sure where those five years went, but a lot has happened. Mel Gibson became a bad guy. Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger and far too many others died far too young. Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes. Britney Spears went country nuts, then made a major comeback. Lindsay Lohan (need I say more?). The blog has gone places I never anticipated (a glossary?), places I miss very much ("Lost") and has experienced a much-needed renaissance since Jen, already a friend, joined me as a blogging partner last year. My life, too, has changed in the past five years. I have more gray hair. I actually watch "Idol" now (clearly, I'm no longer any kind of hipster) and I...

Happy Black Friday, see you on Monday

Jen and I are taking a break today to possibly do one of the following things: a. Sleep the day away. (Obviously, I've already blown that plan.) b. Fight the mall hordes for Black Friday deals. c. Watch the "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" special we DVR'd last night. d. Freak out and hit the gym in a futile attempt to shed the calories we consumed on Thursday. Even though that coconut cream pie was a delish Turkey Day addition. e. Watch football. f. Some combination of all of the above. See you back here on Monday....

Who are Jen and Liz anyway?

Liz Kelly Accredited Celebritologist Liz monitors the ups, downs and in-betweens of the stars. She is uniquely qualified to write this blog because of her alarming interest in celebrities and pop culture -- and because Sandra Bullock, Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty attended her high school (not at the same time, but still...) --- (Bill O'Leary for The Washington Post) Jen Chaney Also an accredited Celebritologist, Jen focuses on pop culture news and trends in the entertainment world. In addition to overseeing movie content for the Post's Web site, she also writes regularly about film, DVDs and stars of screens large and small. When she isn't blogging or at the movies, she's... um... probably at home, watching a movie....

About This Blog -- An update!

Liz: Since 2006, Celebritology has delivered a carefully curated daily mix of the day's top celebrity news, gossip and must-see photos and videos. But, like any good news product, we've grown and changed over the years. Now that we've made it through puberty (because four years equals puberty in blog years) it's time to expand our focus and take a wider look at the world of entertainment. Celebritology will continue to bring you breaking celebrity news (Lindsay Lohan's accelerated aging), opinion (Did Tiger go too far?) and analysis (which celeb iPhone app should you download?). But starting today, the revamped Celebritology -- dubbed Celebritology 2.0 -- will add a healthy dose of posts about pop culture, covering everything from movie blockbusters to offbeat DVDs, extreme fandom to the latest geek-tastic viral video. How? I will still be here paying attention to the latest Spencer and Heidi news so you don't...

Long Weekend

I'm taking a four-day weekend off to spend some time away from the keyboard. In my absence, Jen Chaney (who you know from the weekly "Lost" analysis) and Frank Thomason (who subbed back in July) will be running the ship. See you on Tuesday! -- Liz...

Comment Box: Don't Mess With Bill

Another Monday morning in sunny Washington, D.C. where the humidity is rising faster than the water in "Poseidon" (ba-dum-pah!). Time to review your comments. Gza, Rza and Bill Murray in "Coffee and Cigarettes." (AP) Totally unrelated question here: Liz, how do you feel about your favorite leading man voicing Garfield the sequel? Will you be first in line at the movies tomorrow? -- Dana comments on Help K-Fed Tell His Story Dana is referring to Bill Murray, an actor about whom The Post's Gene Weingarten and I have disagreed in the past. Weingarten chracterizes Murray as a one-note, relatively untalented actor/comic who is basically capable of playing one character and accuses me of a blinding crush on the man, rendering me incapable of competently judging his work. He also particularly loathed his performance in "Lost in Translation." Gene is jealous. I, predictably, thought he was great in "Lost in Translation"...
