Fashion Poll: Helena Bonham Carter -- nightmare before Christmas?

Ahhh, the lovely and talented Helena Bonham Carter was on hand Monday night at a tribute to partner Tim Burton. As has been her wont ever since she coupled up with Burton back in 2001, Bonham Carter arrived looking like nothing so much as an aging goth working girl. Or milkmaid from hell. Or Wednesday Addams after a bender. (Reuters) Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps you find her mussed tresses and corpse-like pallor attractive. Or you think her amazing body of work (everything from "Lady Jane" to "Fight Club" and beyond) gives her license to make a few fashion missteps from time to time. Have a look and vote your conscience below. poll by twiigs.com...

Comment Box: The Last Word on Letterman?

David Letterman in a screengrab from Monday night's 'Late Show.' (AP) A civilized debate took place during Thursday's Celebritology Live discussion about whether or not David Letterman's admitted affair with staffer Stephanie Burkitt constitutes any kind of sexual harassment. One on side, lots of readers wrote in to protest that Dave had committed any transgression worse than being an adult carrying on a relationship with another consenting adult. But others, including a healthy portion of Celebritology's surprisingly large community of lawyers, said we're missing the point, agreeing with Gloria Allred and NOW president Terry O'Neill, both of whom are calling for CBS to take action against David Letterman for creating a hostile work environment: "Why don't people get it that when Letterman sleeps with SOME staffers, it's the women he DIDN'T sleep with who got shafted (pun intended.) Did they get the same raises? Law school tuition? Extra favors?...

Beyonce Gives Kanye a Pass for VMA Rant

Unfortunately for Beyonce Knowles, she just couldn't leave well enough alone. Over the weekend she finally commented on September's Kanye West VMA incident. Doubtless, you recall the diss heard 'round the world: (If you can't view the video above, you may be missing out on your 1,342,232nd viewing of West's storming of the stage to interrupt Taylor Swift's Best Female Video award speech to protest that Beyonce should have won.) Speaking to Oprah lackey Gayle King backstage at the Billboard Awards, Beyonce downplayed West's bad behavior, excusing him in the name of "art": "Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award.' When they didn't call my name, he was, like, completely shocked. And when he walked on the stage, I was like, 'No, no, no!' and then he...

Chris Brown's Apology -- Are You Buying It?

Chris Brown is sorry for the delay in publicly apologizing for roughing up then-girlfriend Rihanna back in February, but don't blame him. It's the lawyers, he says in a two-minute video posted to YouTube, MySpace, his own Web site and blasted out to media outlets Tuesday afternoon. Brown, who pleaded guilty to a felony in exchange for community service and five years of probation in June, says he's been ready to apologize for months: I'm sure this thing keeps the guy up nights, but I have to wonder about his motivation for posting an online apology five months after the fact. If Brown was truly regretful for roughing up his girlfriend, is posting a Webby mea culpa truly helpful? Or is it a desperate move in an attempt to forestall his quickly-dimming, once-bright future? Ken Noyes, executive director of the D.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence, says that while his organization...

No Eyebrows -- The New Black or Totally Whack?

This morning, I read this ridonculous NY Times story about the latest trend in eyebrow grooming: removing them altogether. Said practitioner Lauren Boyle (a fashion consultant) in the Times story: "It's unifying. There is an asexual element to no eyebrows. We are much more accepting of the 'other' nowadays. Removing eyebrows removes a degree of expression, which makes one look less human and more cerebral, maybe even mechanical. It's an exercise in modernity." Or, as a friend of mine put it, the no-brow look is the "perfect match to Botox if you want to be completely expressionless." The article goes on to posit that removing one's brows may be a reflection of the economic downturn. No brows, no costly maintenance, I guess. I ain't buying it. Ten minutes with a set of tweezers in front of the mirror is a budget-conscious option, too. And even supermodel Adriana Lima (pictured in...

Perez Hilton's Apology -- Too Little, Too Late?

Perez Hilton following the Toronto incident. (AP) Earlier this week, when footage (NSFW) surfaced of Perez Hilton shrieking "You're a [expletive] fag" to Black Eyed Pea Will.i.am outside a Toronto nightclub, I of course immediately thought of beauty pageants. Why? Because Hilton last insinuated himself into the headlines when his same-sex marriage question to now dethroned Miss California Carrie Prejean sparked one of the most overblown stories of the spring. And despite criticism that the question was unfair (I don't agree, btw. Any voting-aged resident of California who aspires to be Miss USA should have a grasp of her state's heated debate about gay marriage.), Hilton defended his question, saying Prejean's opposition to same-sex marriage cost her the pageant crown and positioned himself as a crusader for gay rights. So Hilton's choice of epithets to hurl at Will.I.am is a bit puzzling. Unless one considers that although Hilton himself...
