Romney: We'll Be Watching You

Peter Hauck

Governor Romney uses the recent news about thousands of registered sex offenders trolling MySpace to discuss his high-tech solution to the problem.

Sound Bite: "People who use the Internet to carry out offenses on children . . . should be put away for a long period of time and when they finally get out we should track them with GPS so that throughout their life we know where they are. If you will, one strike and you're ours."

No mention of how this works, or what this costs, or whether it's even legal. But none of that matters when you're promising to protect children from sexual predators.

It is great that Romney is so ferverent about child protection that he is overriding many practality/ethical issues, but I'd wish he would take a step back and see that he can help society in other ways like battling poverty. This is a real issue with a real, ethical solution. Estimated by the Borgen Project, the wealthiest top 1% has the same amount of wealth as the poorest 57%. This can be changed.

Yuck-orama. Romney's doing what Republithugs do best, taking their rhetoric from the schoolyard bully. Yeah, children need to be protected from predators, but if Romney handles all problems by bringing in Der Fuhrer, what kind of president would he be? Somebody get Mitt a gorilla suit to beat his chest with!

I think it is great what Romney is trying to do...long overdue. I just saw a few specials on Dateline/MSNBC called "To Catch a Predator" with Chris Hansen. VERY EYE OPENING about the sexual predator world. In this link you will see just one of the operations: http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=4c4722e8-afc7-4fa4-bcd8-d9699275871f&f=00&fg=copy

It is scary how many and all the different walks of life these predators are coming from---engineering, homeland security, high school teacher, etc. It would be nice to have my children and all the children in this country protected from this!!
