Ad Watch: Fred Thompson's First
The first ad of the Fred Thompson for President campaign makes it TV debut tonight. It makes its online debut here.
The 30-second ad is set to run once tonight during the Republican presidential debate on Fox News Channel. An updated version will air Thursday only on Fox News Channel during the day. (The only change will be changing "tomorrow" to the present tense, according to the campaign.) There are currently no plans to buy ad time on other networks, but the free media it will earn should get it plenty of air play.
The ad is produced by strategist Nelson Warfield, and it's an invitation to visit Thompson's new Web site, fred08.com, to watch a 15-minute video during which the former senator formally announces his candidacy. (More on this strategy from The Post's Michael D. Shear.)
"The goal between now and the minute Senator Thompson is on Jay Leno is to drive as many people as we can to our Web site in anticipation of the launch video," Communications Director Todd Harris tells The Trail.
"Today, as before, the fate of millions across the world depends upon the unity and resolve of the American people," Thompson says. The ad ends with three buzzwords flashed on-screen: "Security. Unity. Prosperity."
What do you think of Thompson's debut ad? Do you plan to watch the 15-minute video? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
