Fred Thompson Wants 'No Amnesty'

It's a big day for political TV ads, and in the case of Fred Thompson, he's got great timing. On the same day Rudy Giuliani releases his first TV ad, and the day Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-N.Y.) decides to withdraw his plan to give illegal immigrants access to driver's licenses, the former Tennessee senator releases a 30-second spot called, "No Amnesty." It starts airing across Iowa today.

In a style similar to his previous ad, we once again see Thompson in a non-descript diner/restaurant, and he speaks directly to the camera.

"Americans know we have an illegal immigration problem. And most of us have a good idea about how to start fixing it -- secure our borders, and enforce the law," he says, adding "giving up, by granting amnesty is not the answer. It's unfair to those who have played by the rules and ignores the rule of law. It's also a matter of national security."

Surreal. Is Fred any different than Steven Colbert other than that he's "serious"? It would be real nice to think that "this" is Fred. What a guy! But it can't be. Fred Thompson is no Fred Rogers.

I live in Southern Arizona and I REALLY see the effects of illegal immigration on the community, jobs, crime and schools. I am very frustrated and I want EVERYONE to start following the rules. But make not mistake. A huge chunk of this problem is ours and it is complicated and not so black and white. We may have to suck it up and make many compromises. After all you are talking about human beings not poisoned or damaged toys. Oh, that's another issue for comment.

Fred is one of only two candidates that makes sense on illegal immigrants. If we keep giving illegals rights and benefits, they'll keep coming. If we start enforcing the law and stop giving benefits, they'll stop coming and the ones here will go home.

How is it that the very thing that has created such a successful political system called compromise is being kicked to the curb?

Thompson says no amnesty. Period.

Where is his leadership. In fact when the grand compromise on immigration reform was proposed politicians who showed courage and leadership and crafted a bill that both sides of the issue came together and put aside their difference for the better of the situation and the country many politicians like Thompson hung their colleagues out to dry.

That's not courage Mr. Thompson. And that's certainly not leadership.

This is not a black and white issue. It is very complex and the color is gray. And gray also reflects the mood of our congress and senate's leadership.

Politicians and Americans for that matter should take a look at "American Harvest." Its a non-partisan feature length documentary about immigration as it relates to agriculture. It presents the facts as they are without political bias.

Every farmer I have spoken to wants to secure our borders. And they also want a workable solution to LEGAL immigration.

Americans have to understand that we all need to appreciate and respect those people who grow and harvest our crops.

The men and women that put food on our kitchen tables deserve no less.

Just a little food for thought as we approach Thanksgiving.

Angelo, for the record, I believe if you ask Senator Thompson, he would gladly tell you that he has no problem at all with legal immigration. Few do. That is not the question, and it was not the question with the "grand compromise" to which you refer, which is far more accurately described as a secret backroom deal that the public heard about just in time. Trying to use the nation's workforce needs as an excuse to give amnesty for lawbreakers and to maintain unguarded borders is shamefully disingenuous.

Fred is not saying "universal deportation",
he is saying no "irreversible Amnesty". Any solution that ocures must happen after the
recalcitrant Bush builds an effective barrier on the border, as provided by the 2006 law.Only a couple of dozen miles have been built of the 854 miles. If this were World War two, and the President "TOTALLY" failed to built needed airbases, shipyards, munitions and convert from car to tank production, FDR would have been hanged for treason on the Mall! George Bush thinks he is more or less an wartime dictator, sadly, Hillary and Giuliani show similar, "open border" and "all-knowing fearless leader" tendencies!

Fred Thompson simply wants to enforce the laws already in place. The key word in "illegal immigrants" is "illegal". Fred gets it. As Fred said a few months ago, it's not the 12 million illegals here now that Americans are worried about but it's the next 12 million.

Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter get it. I would like to see this ticket!!!!

I believe what President Theodore Roosevelt said about immigration in 1907, is still a good policy today.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith, becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American and something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

And as far as immigrants being detrimental to the American farmer... I have no problem with legal (the important word here is... legal)immigrants and farming... but in case you haven't noticed, they ain't staying down on the farm. Most construction jobs and other laborious positions are being filled more and more by Mexicans (many illegal), what happens to the legal citizens who have not been able to keep up with technology and depend on these jobs to support their families? I can tell you; you'll find them in welfare offices standing in the back of the line of Mexicans getting free services, they have neither earned nor have the right to.

True, many people come here for a better life, but many come here to make the money they send to Mexico, so they can have a better life there, when they return home. If you don't believe me, walk into any post office on pay-day. And why are we allowing American dollars to be sent to a foreign country without being taxed?

We send our young men to fight a war on terror while our home borders are being overrun. The quickest and surest way to destroy a country is by destroying its monetary systems... depleteing funding set aside for our legal citizens for health care, schools, hospitals, Social Security, etc. is undermining our monetary system.

Put an Iraqi face on every illegal entering our country (scary thought) and you can see that the catastophy of 9/11 is like a whisper in a tornado. There will be no need for another 9/11, all the terrorists have to do is walk across the Mexican border... if they haven't already.

Is Stan any different from the donkey tied out behind the barn?? No, he's not.

First that farming argument is nonsense. A study just came out of UC Davis (an agricultural University), and the crops are not rotting in the fields and there is no labor shortage. But the growers would have to up the pay 40 cents an hour!

Also, I have been checking here in northern CA. The growers who are moaning and groaning have NOT advertised for labor, or gone to the colleges looking for labor, or checked with the prision system. They want cheap illegal labor, subsidized by the taxpayer.

Fred is right on. We must deport the illegals. Last time there was amnesty, Americans said no way, it is against the rule of law, hurts legal immigrants (hence all Americans bringing family in), and will just cause of flood of illegals coming in for the next amnesty. We were promised it would not happen.

Guess what? We were right. Never again can there be any form of amnesty or the USA is finished. Literally.

Do not forget that it is Mexico's, and La Raza/MECha stated intention to flood the USA with peole and take over. ("America will bow down to us"). Calderon just stuck his nose once again into American Presidential politics. He must think he owns the place.

No, America has to develop a backbone like every other country. Cut off all jobs, apartments, driving, all benefits and they will self deport. Those that do not have to be rounded up and sent packing.

Fred Thompson's immigration policy makes sense, its simple and relying. But the question is, is Giuliani's better? To take a stand on campaign politics, visit www.mitchellinteractive.com

I think it is time to take a stand againt illegal immigration and our elected officials should get back in touch with the american people. SECURE OUR BORDERS and ENFORCE OUR EXISTING LAWS! STOP GIVING AWAY OUR BENEFITS TO PEOPLE HERE ILLEGALLY!People that wave their Mexican flags, come here illegally and are loyal to Mexico don't belong here. If we are going to fight the war on terror understand we don't have to travel thousands of miles to find threats against our nation. We have an invasion going on right here. Legal immigration is fine...but grant it to only those who play by our rules and are willing to assimulate into society. If your born here to illegal parents you should not automatically receive american citizenship. We need more Fred Thompsons!!!
