Bush Impersonator Targets GOP Candidates

Just in time for the July 4 holiday travel week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has recruited a George W. Bush impersonator to criticize 13 Republican members of Congress about oil prices. The ad campaign comes as conservative group, Freedom's Watch, prepares to air ads targeting 16 Democrats on the same issue.

The Democratic ads will air this week during drive time hours, according to the DCCC. The ad above targets Rep. Robin Hayes (R-N.C.), and similar ads will target GOP Reps. Brian Bilbray (Calif.), Shelly Moore Capito (W. Va.), Steve Chabot (Ohio), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Thelma Drake (Va.), Phil English (Pa.), Scott Garrett (N.J.), Jim Gerlach (Pa.), Virgil Goode (Va.), Patrick McHenry (N.C.), Peter Roskam (Ill.) and Jean Schmidt (Ohio).

The DCCC is targeting these members for "doing nothing to help hardworking middle class Americans who are paying more than $4.00 per gallon at the pump," according to Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), the DCCC chairman.

"You would have to hire an impersonator to spew out the hypocrisies in this ad since nobody could probably do it with a straight face," National Republican Congressional Committee press secretary Ken Spain said in reply. The NRCC notes that more than 70 Democratic members of Congress -- including Barack Obama -- voted for the same legislation the Democrats criticize in the ads.
