McCain Ad Attacks Obama's Funding Decision

John McCain has released the first attack ad of the general election cycle, a Web-only video critical of Barack Obama's decision to forego public financing.

"Words" features clips of Obama's past statements about public financing, and quotes from several critical newspaper editorials critical of his decision.

The video ends with, "Change That Works for Him: Breaking His Word."

Now let's see one that shows McCain getting as loan based on the public finance for the primaries, and then illegally backing out when he didn't need it anymore. Sounds like McCain is scared about the lack of fundraising he is capable of, and just how much the "little people" of this country will pay to get a candidate in office that will speak for the people, instead of corporations and big oil.

This doesn't seem like an attack ad. It is a provocative gathering together of facts with an ironic conclusion; Obama says one thing and does exactly the opposite. Is it an attack to simply point that out?

Ed, why don't you try being a little balanced and do a blog piece on McCain's MONTHS LONG hypocricy on the campaign finance issue?

RE BIGGIRL: MCCAIN DID NOT BACK OUT OF IT ILLEGAL, MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THE NEWS PAPERS, HE HAD IT DONE UP BY LAWYERS THAT DID LOTS OF RESEARCH AND ALL THE RULES WERE FOLLOWED! HE IS NOT STUPID, SOMTIMES IT PAYS TO CHECK THE FACTS!

Are you serious, wow, he didn't take public financing, so what, what Obama did is better, please find something to talk about, see this comes from lack of innovation.

Nobody cares about crap like this McCain. Would you run some REAL ads that expose Obama for who he is? Attack him where he is weakest - character, judgement, and experience. There are countless ways to expose Obama - his terrorist associations, his hidden Muslim upbringing - Muslim family - his half broether Malik announcing to the world that Obama was raised Muslim and the photo he has to prove it - the fact that Obama can recite the Koran with a perfect Arabic accent... the secret meetings Obama keeps having with Hamas and Hezbollah agents... the racism and hatred that Obama studied and endorsed for 20 years with his racist mentors in his racist church... His long list of anti-Israel advisors - the fact that Palestinians are phonebanking for him and terrorist groups are rooting for him... heck - just run an ad repeating his name over and over - BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA with the various photos of him in Muslim attire - distorting the Bible - and then end it all with Wright's ranting - God d@mn America and the photo of Bill Ayers Obama's terrorist buddy stomping on the American flag.

Or just one line with the footage from Obama's church of the hatred being spewed from the pastors and the people in the pews cheering and applauding the racist hatred they hear...

Hate is not hope and it cannot unite a country. Say no to hate - vote against OBAMA.

Ladies and Gentlemen, for the last 8 years Republicans have been badgering and beating up the Democrats, and the Dems just stood there and took it without fighting back. NOT THIS YEAR. Not this time. Finally we have a Democratic candidate who is fighting back hard, who is making the right points and making the right arguments to bring America forward. We are witnessing the beginning of a Democrat party revival lead by a great man with great intelligence and great vision. Do not back down from Republican slander. These guys are idiots. Every problem we are facing today you can be 100% sure is due to Republican politics. We have a choice this year between the same old crap, or change that will lead America in a better direction. Alternative energy is the solution, not oil oil oil that is the base and the strength of the Republican party. We've already given the Exxons and Enrons far too much. Vote for change, Obama 2008!

FACT: Obama is getting his money from common people like you and me. Obama represents people.

When Obama rejected public financing - does this mean that he has saved the federal government $85 million?

Robert,

This is certainly an attack ad.

That fact remains regardless of the merit of McCain's claims.

The reason it is a clear attack ad is because John McCain is not a part of this ad at all. The sole focus is on his opponent. That, my friend, is 100% attack ad.

And, by the way, this is McCain's second attack ad, if you count the Internet banner ad concerning Obama's talking "unconditionally" (a loaded term that falsely portrays Obama's words) with leaders of rogue nations.

Attack ad score: McCain 2, Obama 0
