Obama Paints McCain as Wealthy and Clueless

By Howard Kurtz in The Trail:

The Ad: Maybe you're struggling just to pay the mortgage on your home. But recently John McCain said, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Hmm. Then again, that same day, when asked how many houses he owns, McCain lost track -- he couldn't remember. Well, it's seven. Seven houses. And here's one house America can't afford to let John McCain move into. [Shot of the White House]

Analysis: This Barack Obama ad attempts to paint the senator from Arizona as a wealthy, out-of-touch elitist -- precisely the tactic that Republicans once used against John Kerry and John Edwards.

McCain did make the comment about the economy and, in an interview with Politico yesterday, could not enumerate how many houses he owns (valued at $13 million, an on-screen graphic says). The McCain camp says he owns four houses and the others are investments of his wife Cindy, heir to a beer distributorship.

The underlying assumption -- that McCain's personal fortune makes him insensitive to the struggling economy -- is highly debatable. McCain has repeatedly talked about the need to address economic problems, and both he and the senator from Illinois voiced support for -- but did not vote on -- a housing bailout bill passed by Congress. But the tactic could be an effective counterpunch to McCain's ads dismissing Obama as a mere celebrity.

The Obama spot implicitly makes one other charge. By showing McCain speaking in slow motion, with melancholy music in the background, while the narrator says he can't remember the number of homes, the ad suggests the 71-year-old Republican is confused.

I think the Ad was correct McCain is not for the hard working middle class people if he was then he wouldn't have made the comment about people in foreclosure should get a second job. This only confirms his support for not voting for the foreclosusre bail out plan. Why can't the media attack McCain on his voting record instead of pointing out Obama's weaknesses.

What qualifies Senator McCain to be commander in chief? America needs to really listen carefully to what McSame is saying on the issues he can't get specific because he has agreed with President Bush and his only alterative is to attack Senator Obama. McSame has flip/flopped on so many issues I get dizzy everytime he opens his mouth.

All of the undecided voters you better really take a close look at McSame if you agree with him then you have nobody to blame but yourself if he gets into the white house.

Obama for President

The recent omissions made by McLame regarding 5 million as the standard for being "rich", as well as his second job, McLame Realty Inc. underscore this moron's incapability of understanding real middle america. Since birth, McBush has never known hardship, the son of A HIGH RANKING ADMIRAL, WELL CARED FOR AND NEVER KNOWING THE STRUGGLES AND HARDSHIPS FACED BY MILLIONS OF AMERICANS TODAY. THIS IS A RICH MAN'S PRESIDENT WANNA BE...

Let's hope people wake up and realize McSameis nothing but a a lying hypocrite,a racist, and bush's twin on steroids. A disaster for the country not only because of his poor judgement and cluelessness, but his overwhelming senility as well.

GO BARRY!!! DESTROY THE REPUBLICAN CAPITALISTS!!!!!

McCain could care less about the average citizen having a lower standard of living these days. Why should he care about the housing problems - he has a wife that can pay cash any time they want to add another to their list.

A good indication of McCain's concern for the Average American is to review his position on enhancing any benefits to Veterans - of all wars. I read there were 20+ times he could have shown support for Vets, but he never has. Oh well, most of them were probably in the enlisted ranks and he would never associate himself with that low a lever - except when an election is near and then they only get speeches of what a great military man he is.

The late & great Issac Hayes wrote the movie score for what McCain has in store for the average man or wpman in this country - Shaft.

Silly liberals.

I love this ad ? By the way the question was " How many houses do you and Cindy own ? "
Let's get FACTCHECK on this. Apparently they won't touch it, because then they have to reveal how many he really has. I would love to see the house that his first wife the cripple lives in.

Barack Obama's Latest News

http://www.theobamafile.com:80/ObamaLatest.htm I did my homework.

http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1511 Try doing yours.

It's not my fault the DNC didn't vet this Communist.
85,000 gave their lives during my lifetime fighting Communists , so I'll do anything I can to repay their sacrifice by fighting to stop what I find to be the most repulsive freak to have ever run for the Presidency.
He's engineered a slush fund for himself with the $845 billion Global Poverty Act, called for a Civilian Security Force "the size of the U.S. military" and prepared himself for the job by being indoctrinated by the CPUSA for 4 years and then kept up his adult continuing hate education by swearing an oath to Black Liberation Theology and attending Wrights hate America church . His only job, ACORN has been charged for vote fraud in 15 states.
Don't give a hoot who gets it as long as the Commie is stopped.
There are a lot like me and we aren't going to pay "reparations" to this freak that the DNC didn't bother to vette because an Armani suit hangs on him well and he can make a jump shot.

I know you young people like the style, image and progressive package Soros is selling
Tell you what, put up Hillary or Bidden and I'll vote Democratic for the first time in my life but not this megalomaniacal Communist freak.

He ain't getting the red phone on my watch.

old McCain had a house

everywhere a house house

People should not buy houses they knew they could not afford in the first place. I did not and am living very comfortably in my retirement.

Posted by: Hugh | August 21, 2008 11:25 PM

He can't remember how many houses he owns!

So they didn't prep this question. Now there is a something to worry about and a sign that he is out of touch with more than the economic struggles of the working class.

--Fear propagandist...

Communism doesn't work anymore McCarthy. Did you really buy into that then? I bought into the WMDs in 2003, but at least I now can admit that I was properly deceived.

You degrade yourself by attempting to degrade your opponent in simple name calling with your claim of "repulsive freak."

Please elaborate more on how he's arranged the $845 slush fund for himself, this argument does not make any sense at all.

It seems to me that this branch of conservatism has to create some form of mythology to explain Obama because they cannot reconcile his existence with the reality that they can handle. They create these things and people believe them because they need something to believe that is more easily explainable than the complex reality that they have ignored and do not wish to acknowledge.

Its true that there are a lot of people like this. The question is how does this happen?

Soros? really? the same guy that backed Olevia televisions? I shorted them in early '07 and guess who was right about that one?

Listen, the big money is not behind this guy Obama, and that's whats gotten so many people scared. He's not going to cow-tow to big business like Hillary and McCain would and they are spending a tremendous amount of money to discredit him. They've made some good progress, but its going to be difficult to make up for the damage that your man Bush has done, or should I say Cheney has done.

Posted by: natknm | August 21, 2008 11:57 PM

Just because he couldn't remember how many houses he owns people brand him as insensitive to their plight. Wow, how hateful. Your hate for a political party scars you. You say that McCain is out of touch because he is rich? Do you really think that Obama lives in a rathole? He is a Harvard lawyer that has never known what us poor working class people are like...too far removed. It's all about him and his ego.

Posted by: Bruce | August 22, 2008 12:02 AM

Ha,ha,ha. McCain dug the ditch with his stupid "Celebrity" ads and now he can go jump in it.

Posted by: hoos30 | August 22, 2008 12:10 AM

Obviously the man is out of touch with reality. The question is, do journalists want to prolong this for ratings or do they want to perform their jobs.

Posted by: Crempole Stalwart | August 22, 2008 1:23 AM

I like Barack Obama- but to the poor he is as rich as McCain. When you make nearly $5 million last year, live in a $1.6 million home and have a wife who makes $317,000 you shouldn't be getting into a mud slinging contest on homes.

In actuallity if I were McCain I would compare myself to JFK and the Roosevelts. He could say I have lived a career of public service. From the time I was in the military through 5 1/2 years in a prisoner of war camp- to a career as a Maverick Senator. If we judged by money we would have not elected the Roosevelts or JFK.

I think McCain is actually less likely to worry about the things that Obama will worry about like what he will do after he is President. He spent a career moving up the political spectrum and never having accomplished much. He was never in the military - never participated in marches or demonstrations for the poor or even anti-war, he lived a good life in hawaii and Indonesia and then went to an elite HS and to Columbia and Harvard.

Hard to beef about McCain being wealthy when talking to the poor.

Obama is truly out of touch. He thinks knowing how many homes a person invests in makes him capable of being a president. If you have an investment firm and a staff to run those things why should it matter. Integrity is what the issue is here. Obama hangs out with mobsters...... is that ok? Vacations in Hawaii while he should be tending to gaining votes.... Or is he out of touch ??? Does it not matter to Obama. Obama you need to clean up your act before you think we can trust you...Mobsters will not get you elected!

Posted by: Barrack_007 | August 22, 2008 3:26 PM

McCain has seven houses. Obama vacations in Hawaii. Who cares?

Mobsters? CPUSA? Soros? This is Black Helicopter crazy talk.

No wonder the Post's political coverage is so bad, their readers are a bunch of morons.

We are truly becoming an Idiocracy.

Obama is gonna choose billionaire NYC mayor Bloomberg because that is his instruction from the oligarghy (international bankers and financiers) controlling the elections. Obama is their puppet. Bloomberg will privatize the US government to profit big time $$$ as planned because their wealth is going down with bad economy and currency. Bloomberg will privatize US programs, infrastructure and jobs and forsake President FDR's policies that benefits 80% of the forgotten people and Constitution.

These comments are hilarious. This isn't about how rich McCain is. It is the fact that he doesn't even know how many homes he has. Sheesh. Get a clue and stop repeating Fox News.

Posted by: Laughable Commentary | August 22, 2008 8:05 PM

The issue isn't about how rich McCain is. It is the fact that he doesn't even know how many homes he has. Wrong, the issue is one candidate is honest and one is a habitual liar. The question was not how many houses he owned. The question was how many houses do you and Cindy own. Cindy's wealth is in a family trust fund. The trust owns houses that are actually lived in by other members of her family. McCain, unlike Obama, doesn't immediately respond with lies. To have said a number of properties and later have it revealed that the trust had more he would raked over the coals. As to some of the other issues raised. I am afraid big money is behind Obama. He spent more in July than McCain did for his campaign thus far. Obama has a history of getting his money from people like Tony Rezko. Tony Rezko is a Syrian slumlord that ripped off the state of IL and the poor of the Obama District. Rezko was inabled by legislation and recommendations of Barrack Obama. I would much rather have big business behind my candidate than big crime. Has for the housing/credit crisis - We get to blame the democrats again. You see during the depression the Glass Steagall Act of 1933 regulated the banking and investing industries. The Carter administration passed the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980 and the Clinton Administration passed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The combinded effect is the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act and the mess we've got now. Let see - oh yes some one pointed out that Obama won't cow tow to business the way McCain would. Well, Obama voted for the Bush Energy that Obama said had breaks for big oil. McCain voted against it. Let see, one other point. For those that call Bush the war monger. In 2004 Obama wouldn't critized Kerry for voting for the war while at the Democratic National Convention and the next day told the Chicago Trib "There is not that much difference between my position and George Bush's at this stage" He also is quoted in the fall of 2004 as saying, We've got to do everything we can to stabilize the country to make it successful because we'll have too much at stake in the Middle East." Obama has said he is willing to take military action against Iran and Pakistan.

McCain may be wealthy and clueless, but he is a lot better than Obama.

According to the McCain's flyers and negative TV AD accusing
Senator OBAMA saying:

NOT READY TO LEAD

We, American people are ready to say
this against McCain:

It's a republican evening. Time is over!
McCain, TOO OLD TO LEAD.

It's a republican evening. Time is over!
McCain, TOO OLD TO LEAD. It's a republican evening. Time is over!

This old man is pagan. He isn’t a born-again. Bush lied about his faith to the Americans evangelical people. McCain wants to do the same. He also wants to lie. He does not know humility. He is full of pride and not wise at all. Man with poor character unable to be a true father of a great nation as the USA.

He is running a bad and a negative campaign full of personal criticism against Obama. McCain is showing his a big hate against Obama as a child accusing his friend for getting a nice and a best pair of basketball than his bad own one.

McCain said Obama is a celebrity! Let me laugh little bit.
Obama: formerly an unknown poor guy who became a celebrity. He didn’t cheat it, old McCain. He deserves that glory. You want to become like Obama: Go to university, be a man of laws, academic, intelligent, brilliant speaker, wise born-again Christian, praising you every time and all his adversaries, hungry for change and have a real vision for America, you will be as Obama.

Refusing to recognize those Obama's values is very dangerous. So, don’t be jealous, McCain. People saw your bad character. You gonna hardly paid for that. It's time for you to be very careful for everything you're saying and doing in your campaign. You’re really not ready to lead. Don't be as an old child. We dont need an old and a stupid president tired of life in the USA as the old former Russian President Boris Yeltsine or some one like the old dictator Mugabe from Zimbambwe.

To be a good soldier isn't an asset for some one to become president. Hitler was a good soldier in Germany. We know that he finished by doing foolish things in Europe. You're a new Hitler, rich man McCain.
