Do the Hippy Hippy Shake

In the first week of competition on "Dancing With the Stars," the most memorable moment on "boys' night" had to be when the camera panned the faces of the women competitors after Mr. Abercrombie & Fitch (that would be model Albert Reed) completed a cha-cha-cha (at least that's what we think it was, who was watching his feet?). With so many pelvic gyrations, he easily could get a lifetime's worth of work as a Chippendale dancer. Let's just say that the women were agog. His score -- 21 -- was smack in the middle of the overall results, but despite his status as "least known" competitor it's hard to believe he won't be voted back tomorrow night. Especially after he promised in his post-dance interview to wear no shirt sometime in the future (tonight's being slit open to his navel).

On to the others:
Mark Cuban, Mr. Billionaire, there is only one thing to say: sure, you had a blast, but please, please, PLEASE have a conversation with your tailor.

Then there's Floyd Mayweather. After getting all kinds of props from his competition on Monday night's show -- aren't boxers supposed to have fabulous footwork? -- he finished barely ahead of SI swimsuit model Josie Maran in the judges' assessment. But the guy who drives cars for a living -- Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves -- showed exactly what a little Brazilian blood can give you in the suave category (he scored 25, a number topped only by Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan in Monday night's female dance-off). The first man up, soapy star Cameron Mathison (from All My Children), was very very pretty and very very middle-of-the road.

And that brings us to Wayne Newton, Mr. Las Vegas, who is the sentimental entry in this year's sweepstakes and -- no surprise here -- danced last. He got the fabulous Cheryl, a two-time winner, as his partner, and while she was as sweet as can be on camera, there is this definite sense she's thinking "uh-huh, they gave him the best dancer on the show in hopes of keeping him alive for at least the first few weeks." Let's face it: Newton's built-in fan-base is going to help him, regardless of his scores. But while Mark Cuban is the one who just had a hip replacement, Wayne looks like the one who needs one....hmmm, perhaps Albert Reed could provide a small donation?

Tomorrow night, in a special Wednesday results episode, we get entertainment legends Dolly Parton and Savion Glover. I shall leave your minds to ponder how that combination was conceived. But the real question is: are there enough fans of babeliciousness out there to spare poor Josie in the first week?

Meanwhile, let's institute a scoreboard, for those not watching at home:
Helio Castroneves: 25
Cameron Mathison: 21
Mark Cuban: 21
Albert Reed: 21
Wayne Newton: 19
Floyd Mayweather: 18

Does anyone else think Floyd Mayeather's score was lower than it should have been? I think he should have at least scored above Wayne Newton. His footwork was 100 times better. Wayne looked completely stiff.

Off the top of my head, at least 7 brand-new shows have premiered in the last week, and so far these blog entries have only been about Heroes or Dancing with the Stars? I thought there would be a little more variety than that here...
