'Grey's': Another Izzie Pity Party
Oops we all make mistakes week on "Grey's Anatomy."
Meredith's beginning to figure out what a mistake it was not to track down her half sister, Meredith Lite, when she was an infant and drown her in a bathtub, because now Meredith Lite is pretty much wowing McDreamy, whom Meredith has long regarded as her own personal pinata.

Oops! Meredith and Old Intern realize their mistake. (ABC/Ron Tom)
Meredith Lite spends most of the episode golly-goshing around Cristina, who attacks her whenever she gets near, only to have McDreamy come to her rescue. Which Cristina reports back to Meredith, sending Meredith into fits of squinting. So squinty does Meredith become she can't clearly read a patient's chart and accidentally tells a middle-aged woman who'd come in to have some moles removed that she's dying, when it's actually the guy down the hall who's dying, only it turns out okay for Mole Woman because the hospital buys her a really nice condo to get her to agree not to sue.
McDreamy, meanwhile, is beginning to realize what a mistake he's made not cozying up to Meredith Lite ages ago, letting her get close up to patients and whatnot, then dangling the relationship in front of Meredith.
McSteamy has pretty much realized what a mistake he made not going to that new series with Addison where, even if he didn't actually get more lines than the few he's now given each week on "Grey's," he would at least get to take his shirt off, what with that new show being set in southern California. Okay, maybe we're projecting a little here.
Ditto Bailey -- in rejoining Addison on the new series, not the shirt removal thing -- who's also been wandering around in search of a storyline so far this season.
Callie is beginning to figure out what a mistake she made marrying a guy who hides behind a wall or pillar or potted palm or whatever when he sees his wife walk up and confront the woman he shagged.
George, aka Loser Husband, is beginning to realize what a mistake he made cheating on his wife because his doe-eyed Bambi Lost in the Forest Look doesn't seem to melt her any more and meanwhile, Izzie, aka Object of His Shagging, is turning out to be a bit of a shrew, snapping at him "So now I'm a MISTAKE?!"
And Izzie, dear Izzie. If the cast of "Grey's Anatomy" is the solar system of self-absorption, Izzie is the sun. First, she's furious with George when he tells her his mommy, er, wife, says she forgives him for shagging Izzie. Then, when Callie confronts her and says she wants to talk to her at noon in the cafeteria, Izzie shouts at George that his wife breaks bones for a living and is crazy and will try to beat her up in the cafeteria rendezvous.
Then Izzie tells Alex she slept with George, but only because she wants him to understand that while she will let Callie get in one good punch or maybe two to make things even, at that point she expects Alex to pull Callie off her. Alex, taking the high road, says he's embarrassed for her. When did Alex become this show's hero?
Next Izzie brags to the crowd gathered for the noontime cafeteria brawl that she learned to fight in a trailer park. Only, when Callie shows up and Izzie puts up her dukes, it turns out Callie wanted to talk, and Izzie collapses in a heap of self pity.
On the bright side, the Izzie Pity Party sets up the episode's two best scenes -- both Callie's.
First, she gets to scream at a guy who promised his girlfriend she could move in if she lost a boatload of weight -- and who is now dead from malnutrition and compulsive exercising -- that he didn't want Skinny Girlfriend to be healthy, he just wanted her to be hot; that he didn't love her, he just didn't want to be alone; and how you don't destroy the person you love.
Later, when Izzie, back at the Pity Party, tells Callie she's soooooo sorry about everything and feels terrible, Callie, having worked up a good head of steam on Skinny Girl's boyfriend, sneers "don't you dare come to me for forgiveness, you traitorous bitch."
Finally, "Grey's Anatomy" is back on track, dontcha think?

The twit parade continues. How can allegedly highly educated people be so dumb. Too bad Callie didn't deck blondie. This show is written for 12 year old girls.

Hey what?
Did something better with my time (hiking in the Adirondacks with great buddies) and came home exhausted and forgot about TV.
So I come here reading a parody and don't know the "truth story".
From this perch, I think that show (that I usually watch) needs to improve its intelligence, but probably won't.

Kate,
The column gives the story pretty straight. If the writers don't start cooling Izzie down, she'll probably show up one day with an M-16.
But they (the writers) have seemed to notice that Meredith shows less interest in practicing medicine than most of the viewers. Maybe they will fix that.

-I think McDreamy is a creep. He has the hots for Meredith Lite and blames Meredith for it.
-The actress who plays Callie is too good for this show. I hope her agent finds her a better gig.
-I glad to see less of Bailey this season. Her character was just the stereotypical angry black woman.

This show is quickly approaching the shark tank.

Don't know about all of you, but I've totally lost interest in this show.

One of Izzie's interns is from Virginia Beach and I went to HS and College with her. That's about the only reason I'm still watching.

Chandra Wilson did not win an Tony for Caroline or Change.

Callie needs to revisit McSteamy...they're hot together! Dump the LOSER HUSBAND.

Did anybody else have a "Where did that come from?" moment when Alex scoffed at Izzie because she shouldn't have told him about the affair like he was "one of her girlfriends?" He hasn't shown interest in her in ages so why would he feel bad to hear something like that? I think he just has serious hatred of George, remember last week when he outed O'Malley as a repeater?
But who can blame him? George needs to grow up.

the show this week bared a little teeth and sported some backbone. finally, Izzie got some come-uppance due to her (yay Callie, and yay Alex).
McDreamy is such a tool. If someone treated me the way that he treats Meredith then I'd be as uncommittal as Meredith is. Too shallow. Too hot though - I still watch.

'Grey's' used to be a great show. It has descended into a dumb soap with mediocre writing. Too bad.

I'm going to agree with the growing consensus, Grey's used to have cute themes and life lessons paired with hipster music and hot guys, now it has descended into ever unraveling plot lines and soap opera incest. Why do I still DVR this travesty?

Fits of squinting! I love it.
I have never watched this show and have no interest in it, but it's a hoot to read about in this blog. Thank you Lisa.

yesterday's episode made me feel truly embarrassed that I was wasting my time on what now is a silly, juvenile, show. no more.

I'm just waiting for the day "cutting the LVAD wire" replaces "jumping the shark" as the point where a show has seen its better days.

I am not a regular viewer. But, last night I understood McDreamy/McSteamy to be baring his soul to Meredith...something about spending the rest of her life with him. So, does he like Meredith, or her half-sister, or is he in love with himself?

George is just the WORST leading man ever. Believing Callie digs him is hard enough, but Izzie too? No way in heck.

Well, I felt like the show got pretty much back on track.
But Izzie needs to get over herself.

First a small quibble: it was not Meredity who misinformed the Mole Lady, it was her intern. Meredith actually stepped up to the plate and took the blame as she was the resident in charge of this patient and of her seriously dumb intern.
Second, as an avid fan of your columns and your chats, and knowing as such that you have hated Grey's since it began, why on earth did you get stuck blogging it?!?
I actually find many of the patient stories interesting and touching: this episode it was the young football player.
I love that Alex is becoming a caring human and hate, hate, hate, that Addison, who humanized him, is in that dreadful program Private Practice instead of at Seattle Grace.
I find the Gizzy thing abominable but I find the Callie/Izzie thing really sad and interesting. Have disliked George from the get/go so unless he falls in love with a Panda, am not going to like his story lines.
Hope as you watch the show for more weeks you'll recognize the good parts as well as the absurd ones.

Callie and Bailey are both Tony Award-winning actresses ("Spamalot" and "Caroline or Change" respectively). Personally, I'm happy to see Callie get more screen time and I hold out hope that Bailey will too. I'm not an Izzie basher (don't hate her because she's hot), though the writers seem be hating on her bigtime.
