'Project Runway': A Touch of 'Sex & the City'?

Celebrity. Fashion. Icon.

We don't know exactly what the criteria are to be considered a "celebrity fashion icon" -- one is (a.) semi-famous; and (b.) generally favors garb? -- but as Week Two of "PR4" struts out tonight, we hear through the television grapevine that a such a creature will appear as a guest, perhaps as part of the design challenge.

We claim absolutely no insider info (not even our own Robin Givhan OR Tom Shales is privy to this secret. Or so they tell us.). Heck, we're still trying to track down Christian Siriano's old hangouts from his days in Annapolis. One trusted Siriano source tells us that The Manchild They Call 'Mango' worked at the Bubbles Hair Salon in the Annapolis Mall as recently as last year. If you have hot tips, so to speak, about the talented "Spawn of Chris Kattan," we'll all ears. And tape recorders.

But back on tonight's Mystery Guest, we're left to guess wildly at her/his identity -- and bear in mind, this is someone of such star mega-wattage that one contestant reportedly is reduced to weeping (for joy? at the prospect of touching the mere hemline of her/his garment?). In our polling question last week, more than a hundred respondents said they could see A-lister SARAH JESSICA PARKER appearing on the show this season, and that sounds like as fair a bet as any. Who else, y'think?: PARIS HILTON (now that her Road Trip to Rwanda plans are on hold)? GWEN STEFANI (after she came off as rather frosty -- we're talking frozen b-a-n-a-n-a-s! -- in her "American Idol" guest gig last season)? ANDRE 3000? (commence exuberant sniffling, Ricky.)

We open up the phone lines (and high-speed) to you: Who will it be? We can't promise you deluxe door prizes if you're correct, alas, but we can promise congratulations and our ongoing adulation within our humble blogging community.

So to kick things off, our first guess comes from the friendly front desk at the Bubbles Hair Salon (which -- yes! -- has just confirmed Christian's recent employment there). Bubbles's Official "Guest" Guess....MARC JACOBS.

As we await our Bubbles cut and blowdry, we now turn the Discussion/Sleuthing/Guesswork over to you. Our comments field and tape recorders are on....

we throw another three-named candidate into the mix:
one fan suggests that tonight's mystery guest just might be a certain blond-coiffed lead singer of a certain Jersey rock band that promises a certain "blaze of glory"?

but if so, is he a true Celebrity Fashion Icon? You make the call.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a great guess, but then again, I'm not really sure *why* she's considered such an icon. Really just because she played a character who was all fashionista and obsessed with shoes doesn't make her a fashion icon.

i hear you, Anon and agog -- some folks who make up our newsroom Klum Kluster have been debating that very thing. (some would argue that attaching your identity to Manolo's and The Gap alone does not make you a "fashion icon.")
And i raise ANOTHER possibility: perhaps both SJP and JBJ could appear tonight (no matter how debatable their "CFI" credentials.)

I think SJP is a great guest. Some others that could bring those contestants to tears: Liza, Mariah, Celine (new album out--good tie-in opp, not that I think she is particularly known for fashion, except that white backwards suit she wore once), Whitney (also staging comeback), Jennifer Aniston, etc. Was I only allowed one guess?
