Yawning 'With the Stars'

Is there not one real moment on this show? Marie's look of surprise when she hears she's safe: fake. Cameron's smarmy answer when he's asked whether Helio is an ally or a threat: fake. Backstage scene of the dancers waiting to hear the word: fake, fake, fake.

Also fake: The puzzling skit with Jimmy Kimmel -- Jimmy on "DWTS"??? -- and his Latino security guard inexplicably sporting a doggie bite guard. Not funny. Not. Funny. At. All.

Cameron dances his way back to daytime. (ABC/Carol Kaeson)

This was a show filled with filler. Gloria Estefan phoned in her performance, her normally strong voice straining to hit the high ones. Then there was
the oddly disjointed dance number with famed choreographer Fatima Robinson dancing the lead in what looked like a hip-hop music video -- minus the lip-syncing. Huh? If you're a choreographer and you feel compelled to step in to the spotlight, you better be at least as good as the dancers backing you up.

Then we had another exercise in contrivance: Self-esteem gurus (why is this show so obsessed with self-esteem?) Tony Robbins and Dr. Michael Beckwith of "The Secret" handicapping the show. Surprise, surprise, Jennie needs to work on her um, self-esteem. Tony on Cameron: "I don't get the killer instinct in him."

Tony might have been on to something: The lackluster Cameron is out, out, out. And that was about was the only thing that felt real all night long.

Marie Osmond's "faint" a couple weeks ago...so very fake. How much did they pay you to take a dive, Marie?

The Jimmy Kimmel bits are something that has been part of the show before. He did them during last year's season too. He usually showed what the steps were for the different dances. Maybe his only having one appearance so far this season is because most people like you thought he stunk it up last season. But lets not forget there is a writers' strike on and they may have been desperate for bits to fill air time this week.

Well, it shouldn't be an hour, but I didn't find it nearly as horrid as you, Teresa. I liked the professional and energized hip-hop dancers who were actually in sync, as opposed to the weird out of rhythm dancing done by DWTS's professionals during singing performances. It was also definitely refreshing to see Gloria Estefan perform a real traditional dance number than J.Lo trying to advertise her new album.
