'Amazing Race': Down to the Final Four

The Pink and the Black have been banished, no matter how much that whiny Jen insisted they have had some kind of special "witchcraft" going on that was keeping them safe in the race.

This time, Kynt and Vyxsin just plain made mistakes. All teams caught up after a flight from Florence to Mumbai, but Kynt and Vyxsin had that pesky "speedy bump" activity to complete before they could join the others at the detour (the penalty for coming in dead-last in last week's non-elimination round). Turned out to be yoga, they were awesome
at it, and they made it to the Detour in time to still see Nate & Jen struggling to string a lei of paper roses.

Nate & Jen finished first, barely, then raced off to a warned U-turn with Kynt and Vyxsin on their heels. K&V got their first, but didn't realize it, and so Kynt inexplicably chose to U-turn Nicholas & Don instead. His logic: They're kinda slow sometimes. The thinking person's logic: Um, it's a miracle anyone was still left at the detour after the
extra time it took for the speed bump, so you'd better just slap Nate & Jen's face up there and pray.

With the other three teams easily ahead -- TK & Rachel finished first, Nicholas & Don second and Ronald & Christina third -- it came down to a battle at the last detour. Kynt screwed up again, this time failing to collect his receipts properly, and despite a lot of teeth-gnashing and insistence on impending disaster, Nate & Jen cruised into the fourth
spot.

The best part of the show, though, came when Christina stood up to her bossy dad at the Detour, told him point-blank to stop yelling at her, and then basically took over the project and got it done right after daddy-o screwed up the first time. Perhaps there is hope on that front, after all.

Meanwhile, it certainly doesn't feel as though this 12th version of the race has established any sort of fan favorite. We've got a Domineering Dad & Daughter; a couple that clearly plans to bicker its way across multiple
continents; an often clueless -- but generally likable -- hippie couple; and a Grandpa and his gawky grandson who have surprisingly held in far longer than most would have expected.

Let's wait for the final three and then we'll run our next reader poll. In the meantime, convince me why any of those four will provide the most entertainment value for us all down the stretch run.

Nate and Jen definitely provide the most entertainment--they are such a disaster and I get sadistic pleasure watching this dysfunctional relationship, that, under normal circumstances, would have been history weeks ago.

I like Team Grandpa, and I also get a certain amount of entertainment from TK and Rachel, if only because every time they say "TK" I think, what, they haven't found out his name yet? (Ah...journalist humor.) I'm sorry to see Kynt and whatsit go.

If I recall correctly, TK sounds for Thomas Kent, as revealed last night. I'm not particularly entertained by any remaining team, but then, I watch for the destinations and the culture. Any difficulties the teams find in these places are just part of foreign travel.

Yeah, I was glad to find that out, too. When you're writing a newspaper story, "TK" means "there's going to be a fact/name/number here, but I haven't got it yet."
