'Desperate Housewives': Tornado Mixes It Up

A twister hit Wisteria Lane on Sunday night in a cliffhanger episode. But this much we know:

Survivors include:

Bree and Orson (and baby Benjamin);

Katherine and Adam (though now their marriage may not survive);

Susan and Mike (likewise on their marriage -- if Mike doesn't get clean and Susan remains resolute, and how likely is that?);

Gaby and Edie (who formed an odd bond in the face of disaster; have to love Gaby's jump to confession and trying to wipe the slate clean);

Lynette and Mrs. McCluskey (who survived with that mattress and bathtub move - pretty impressive!).

Apparent casualties (and we have to hedge with "apparent" -- because anything can happen):

Mayor Victor (but that picket through his body looked pretty final);

Sylvia (though her exit, being sucked away by the tornado, looked like something out of a cheap flick; expenses were spared there, weren't they?).

Fates unknown:

Carlos (left lying in an outside doorway);

The rest of Lynette's family - Tom and the kids;

Ida - and her cat.

Any guesses as to who might have survived in the last category? Any ways you would have written the story and/or outcomes differently? Were there any "twists" that really caught you off guard? The destruction of the set,
with the long shot of the debris at the McCluskey home was pretty impressive? The wind-machine effects were well done also.

We'll have lots of time to mull this one because it's the last episode for awhile. Production on "Desperate Housewives" has been halted because of the writers' strike. A spokesman for the show told us last week that there's one more finished episode, but no decision has been made as to when it might air, though January is a possibility.

Time will tell....

Lynette's scream sent chills down my spine.

The build-up to the tornado was a little boring. Gaby was too concerned about clothes instead of her life. I would have been on a plane before the tornado even got close.

It's too bad nobody had Claritin or Benadryl for Tom. As soon as he saw the cat he should have gone home and got some. Everybody that I know with asthma & allergies keeps a supply around.

The devastation was great. Was it a totally new set or did they really destroy the homes? I hope they take their time rebuilding. I liked Katherine's mailbox.

I wonder if Lee & Bob will get a new sculpture for their yard.

The cat is alive.

The biggest shocker to me was Susan having a spine. Doubt it will last b/c that would be out of character.

While I appreciate writer's and see how they are the backbone of our tv entertainment, I was not only predicting what would happen in every scene but had the dialogue verbatim. So hire me Hollywood because this episode of Desperate Housewives was pretty predictable.....

Having been in a tornado and been under a tornado watch, I can tell you only two of the behaved like a real person. First, tornados are typically spawned by thunderstorms. I don't recall ANY rain. You tape your windows for hurricanes, not tornados. And you don't go hide in a basement, with a cat you are highly allergic to, for hours under a tornado watch. 90% of the time, NOTHING happens. Now, when it became a tornado WARNING, different story - that's when you would tape your windows, but of course THERE'S NO TIME! So you run for the basement/safe room - which Edie and Gaby did - and ride out the storm.

I think your list has things backwards. Victor has to be dead with that picket through his chest and Carlos should be on the survivor's list. Although he was struck by a picket, that would be a crappy way to write him out of the show.

You don't use taoe for hurricanes or tornadoes-it is worthless as a defense against 100 mph winds.
