'Jericho': You Call That a Goodbye?
Wait a minute. Did CBS play the wrong "Jericho" finale last night?
The network reportedly had two versions ready to go -- a cliffhanger that would whet our appetites for Season 3, and a series finale that would wrap everything up.
Last Friday, CBS announced that "Jericho" wa sbeing canceled. That's it! No more! No amount of peanuts was going to change the minds of CBS suits this time.
But then, why did Tuesday night's "Jericho" finale leave us very hungry for more? OK, we get some closure --
Hawkins and Jake get the final loose nuke to the still-independent Texas government. We can assume that Texas will now join the rest of the country against the Jennings & Rall/Cheyenne
government.
But let's be honest, Jericho Army. Who wouldn't have loved some sort of nuclear blast to end the show? Y'know? Just the way the whole series started.
The finale all got a bit "Top Gun" on us, with Jake's little Cessna nearly getting blown out of the sky by Cheyenne before the Texans took 'em out. Not a bad scene -- although it made me realize how far we've come from the easier, earlier days of "Jericho."
Goodbye, "Jericho." Dismal ratings be damned. We're still "nuts" about ya.

You want your child to be powerful?
Forgot being President of the USA.
Get them to be a network studio head.
NBC moves the wild and popular award winning show West Wing to Sunday and than dump it. I'm still very sore about that one.
Now CBS dumps Jericho. Again.
I'm not into the reality shows. I like the real TV shows. Just because a show doesn't beat Idol does not mean you should KEEP putting a new show in that time slot to compete.
With DVR's and all the other type of technology we have it's harder for the networks to get the ratings they want.
So we the loyal viewers keep suffering as a result.

Jericho had a lot going for it, symbolically we know what company and political party are represented. Also it was nice to see Jake become more than just a hot head. Hawkins was the best thing about the show. Much appreciation and congrats to Lennie James for a multi-layered performance! The entire cast was 1st rate.

it's a shame it's all about the ratings, $$$ from advertisers and profit margin. Jericho took risks, had plausible plot twists, and had a steady flow (unlike '24s schizophrenic pace and plot-which i like too). I wished CBS would have moved the show around or put it before a more watched show and seen how Jericho's viewership turned out to be.

The cancelation of Jericho begs the question, "Does CBS care what its fans want?" While Jericho Rangers celebrated the 7-episode Season 2, CBS was apparently plotting to minimize the entire situation and they did a terrific job. CBS suits scheduled the 7 episodes for Tuesday at 10 p.m, the time slot of death, pairing Jericho with the Mrs. Less Moonves reality vehicle, "Big Brother" which is probably the most inappropriate lead in and time for what has been touted as the show an entire family can watch together. How many children do you think were allowed to stay up until 11 to watch this show?
What is even more amazing and insulting to the fans is the lack of any real exploitation of the NUTS campaign. CBS SHAREHOLDERS, take note. Your network wasted an unbelievable opportunity to promote their acquiescence to the legions of fans who bought and had shipped 40,000 pounds of peanuts to CBS in NY and LA. You couldn't buy this type of publicity - yet CBS suits squandered this once-in-a-lifetime chance to pose themselves as fan-friendly.
I suppose there's a logical reason why Letterman never interviewed a single Jericho cast member. I just can't even fathom what it could be. Still, there must be a great reason why ABC's Miss Guided and Grey's Anatomy get more support from Letterman than a CBS show.
And what about the fact that in the midst of the paralyzing writers' strike, Jericho was one of the few scripted dramas with never-before-seen episodes? CBS wasted that angle too.
Well, Jericho is destined for a Season 3 and the good news is that it will be better treated wherever it lands. It will be hard for any network to go any lower than imposing a 3 month hiatus, no cross promotion, and no real interest in quality TV. There's no doubt that at this very moment, CBS is trying to scheme their way into getting more cheap trash TV on the air. Regardless, Jericho made history and will continue to do so with the full support of a fan base that continue to love this show.
