'Jericho': 30 Seconds Over Cheyenne
So, like all good things in life, it all comes down to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
That's where the last bomb's heading, so that's where Hawkins, who lost the darned thing, is heading. And he's taking Jake with him.
Who's also on their way to Cheyenne (if he's not there already)? Hawkin's Mystery Man, a.k.a. John Smith, a.k.a. the really bad man responsible for blowing up 23 American cities. What a disappointment he turned out to be! Hawkins should have known better -- I mean this is the guy supposed to know everything, right?
Yes, our mystery man -- who we all thought was the savior -- turns out to be the evil presence behind the whole thing. Just who is he, "Jericho" fans? Answers now!
Another disappointment from last night's episode? Beck. What happened to him? Just when we thought he was starting to come around, he winds up going all Abu Ghraib on poor Jake and imposes the worst kind of Martial Law on Jericho.
Of course, good ol' Jake wouldn't give up his fellow Rangers or reveal where Stanley the Assassin is hiding. A little hallucinatory visit from Grandpa didn't hurt. (I was half-expecting him to tell his World War II "Nuts" anecdote again.)
How 'bout that blink-and-you-missed it appearance by Pamela Reed as Jake's mom. Ah, it made me nostalgic for that classic first season.
Don't get me wrong -- Season 2 has not disappointed. But, man, those ratings. Yikes. They're approaching CW levels.
So, Jericho Army, with one episode left, the big question is: Will next week's episode be a season finale or a series finale?
Either way, we've got a showdown in Cheyenne coming next week

I agree re shark-jumping. That was about two twists too many. And a pretty stupid mastermind.
And given the ratings, I do think this will be a series finale. I hope they do it justice.

This whole Cheney/Halliburton storyline is too ham-handed and OTT. We get it. Put the bullhorns, pulpits, and clubs away and just wrap things up with some degree of delicacy now.
I keep thinking the bomb will go off--that will be the ending.
The only question I really care about now, then, is who the mystery man/John Smith is. (I briefly thought the voice might have been Beck's back at the beginning, but it obviously isn't.) Who else was high enough in J&R to write the report? The new pres himself?

In case anyone is still reading comments to this post, a few days later... It's official. Jericho won't be back next season (according to The Hollywood Reporter). The good news, such as it is, is that they shot alternate endings to the season finale -- one a cliffhanger, the other a true finale, just in case. So they'll be showing us a real ending next week. (For the truly hardcore, presumably they'll put the cliffhanger version on the eventual DVD.)

Cripes -- I missed the first 50 minutes last night -- will have to catch it online later in the week. But, can I say that I had only 1 thought when it was revealed that John Smith blew up 23 cities and completely disintegrate the United States merely because he wanted to bring down the corrupt Washington-Halliburton, oops, I mean Jennings & Rall, cabal:
Jumped. The. Shark.
Laughably unrealistic -- you would think that there were probably at least a half dozen other ways that a man with the power to place and detonate 2 dozen nukes would be able to find to bring down the evil DC/J&R joint trilateral commission, especially one that didn't involve creating 23 parking lots, killing millions of innocent Americans, and plunging the country that you claim to love into complete and total chaos. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
