The Political Cartoon: These Five Candidates Await Your Vote.
Nothing is quite as tantalizing to many cartoonists as a visual-heavy news story that lacks audio. Such a story just begs for sharp-witted satirists to fill in the blanks.
As President-elect Obama visited the White House last week, viewers got plenty of images -- but most of it played out as if someone had hit the mute button. Thankfully, smart cartoonists -- such as the five below -- have their own creative remote-controls.
Of the hundreds of cartoons we culled through on the transition of power, these were our Fave Five. Now it's your turn: Which cartoonist best nailed it?

Matt Davies (The Journal News)

Steve Benson (The Arizona Republic)

Robert Ariail(The State [S.C.])

Lisa Benson (WPWG)

John Trever (The Albuquerque Journal)
Editor's Note: Our apologies -- we included the wrong Lisa Benson cartoon earlier today. This version has been corrected.

I don't really understand what Bush is doing in that Davies cartoon.

Why is Benson doing a 'planet of the apes' cartoon?

Yep, Ariail FTW. Just a good drawing supporting a better than average comic concept.

>>to oceanchild:
in the davies cartoon, i "read" it as bush unfurling a most unwelcome red carpet -- spoofing obama's visit to the white house last week.
>>to mschafer:
that is the WRONG Lisa Benson cartoon. The blog's administrators are still working on correcting this. (They are also, we should add, working on getting the reader-voting poll up-and-running.)

The 2nd is my favorite of these 5 (shoes to fill) but my favorite was Toles on the 5th or 6th showing Virginia with donkey ears.

I thought W wore crocs. No trouble filling those shoes once you get the horsesh*t out.

The red carpet didn't work for me due to the perspective. Bush's White House should've been at the bottom.

No voting thingie?
Ariail, as much for the visual detail as the very good joke.
