Is Obama a Comic Flip-Flopper?

By Michael Cavna

As long as I'm waxing Obama today, I'll stick with that theme to ask today's Burning Question: Is President Obama a comic flip-flopper?

Here's the story: I was reading on the Daily Telegraph site that when asked about his comics fandom, Obama said his favorites to collect were Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian. That revelation, in fact, led Marvel to produce a special "Obama" issue of Spider-Man this month.

But when TV Guide asked Obama last year what his favorite cartoon character is, his reply was...SpongeBob SquarePants?? Huh? (Note: Obama repeated this answer recently before The Post's editorial board, when queried about it.)

So is the prez waffling? Nah. Turns out, SpongeBob is his favorite TV cartoon character, because he enjoys watching it with his daughters.

And speaking of SpongeBob, Obama might appreciate this mash-up of his speechifying and images of SpongeBob, titled "Underwater Healthcare." For those of us who can name this particular episode of "SBSP," it's more amusing than most such clip-jobs.

If you're an artist who loves to get geeky about supplies, then it's worth checking out this blogpost by Richard "Cul de Sac" Thompson. Pretty much for die-hards only. The man knows his nibs.

THE POST BLOGGER PREDICTIONS: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review cartoonist Randy Bish gets a jump on Super Bowl cartoons with this cartoon. Which I use as an oh-so-deft segue to offer my own prediction for Sunday's Super Bowl in this meta-post. (And if you care nothing of sports, you can stop now; see you tomorrow to talk "Frank & Ernest" or "Curtis.")

As a former sportswriter, I've got a bit of pride on the line. As a DC-area resident surrounded on all sides by rowdy, Terrible Towel-wielding Steeler fans, I've got "neighborhood safety" on the line. Regardless, though, here's how it breaks down:

1. The Cardinals will overperform, thanks to the absurd gifts of Larry Fitzgerald and the cool-headed Bowl experience of Kurt Warner.
2. The Steelers will be surprised by some of Arizona's defensive schemes.
3. Arizona will stay in the game thanks to at least one big play by special teams.
4. Ben Roethlisberger will roar in the second half, even with a hobbled Hines Ward.
5. The flying Troy Polamalu will light up Chris Berman's highlight reel like it's Christmas.(If only the Cards' had a real-life Rod Tidwell!)

PREDICTION: Steelers win, 24-21.
