The Morning Line: Riffys to Ring in the New Year

By Michael Cavna

When "Brewster Rockit" recently spoofed current fiscal woes, some 'Riffs commenters (most notably "oceanchild") said they thought it was the best commentary on the economy they had seen. Anywhere.

Well, similarly, this week's "Rockit" deserves the Riffy for getting major comic mileage out of the exit of 2008, as Father Time comes in for much abuse. Every day builds amusingly on the last. Thanks, Brewster, for the year's last chance to vent.

Also earning a Riffy this week is "Sally Forth," for its bringing back Aria the Office Quasi-Crush. I don't know which is richer: Seeing Sally actually getting a little worked up (instead of so wryly lackadaisal), or Ted squirming like a toad.

And speaking of: The commenter "yellojkt" wins a Riffy this week for correctly predicting in September (among the handful of scenarios offered on yellojkt's site) that this whole affair, as it were, could end up with a big finish at a Christmas party. (If yellojkt's prescience continues, perhaps next is a quick game of "Hide the Meatloaf.")

Maybe Aria will up Sal's game. She's got a tiny bit of cleavage while Sally has none. How about a peek a boo blouse? That would be fun.

My first Riffy. What an honor. Not as big as getting a COTW at Comics Curmudgeon, but I will take what I can get.

The Aria thing could still end in a three-way, but I'm not sure who would end up being the bologna in that sandwich.

MSchafer,
Please, no Sally Forth fan service. My stomach couldn't handle it.

yellojkt,

I'm only thinking of TED! :--)

Well, this just takes the cake. "Predicting?" "Prescience?" This is just an example of yellojkt getting tangled up in a Schrodinger's Cat experiment. We all know that the cartoonists are unable to resist the allure of this blog, and the other, funnier one, too. And in fact may be finding their ideas here, and there, for they are as we know a remarkably lazy lot. yello needs 50% of the take for that day, not just the Riffy.

Indeed, that same thought was briefly entertained by the Riffy Committee, JUMPER1: Even the dimmest prospect that "yellojkt" might deserve more Royalty Check than Riffy Name-Check.

Whether it's this comic journo blog or the comic joke blogs, there's prime storyline fodder to be found.

*And I must say: I've long thought Schrodinger's Cat would be a swell animal-strip title, at least in Austria. (Consider that just more comic fodder for
today, the very anniversary of Erwin Schrodinger's death.)
