He Who Gaffes Last: Our Fave Art Goof O' the Day

By Michael Cavna

We begin today with the ol' "TRAIL WATCH" because today's "Mark Trail" is more staggeringly eye-catching than usual -- no small feat, that.

'Riffs refers not to the Central Casting Nimrod Villain, or to Naive Polka-Dot 'Kerchief Boy (aka Zac Efron's Gap-Toothed Stunt Double). Nay, we draw your attention to Rusty's missing right arm in the final panel. Sure, his right hand is on the camera, but beyond that: There's no there there. (Perhaps a Token Ginormous Foreground Rodent ripped it off. Just sayin'.)

ELSEWHERE...

As mere days to go till the strip is disappeared from the Post print funnies (we hope only temporarily), 'Riffs continues our Official "Judge Parker" Vigil with today's strip. Granted, the high-school storyline might not be the most engaging, but we're confident this will get exciting real-real soon. Stay tuned...

LASTLY...

Speaking of goodbyes: We can't help but read today's "Pooch Cafe" as if Poncho is trying to ply our alleged loyalty in a last-ditch effort. Sorry, Poncho -- apparently too late to come out of the closet now.

And quick reminder: You're encouraged to call the Post's comics hotline (202.334.4775) or e-mail Comics Feedback (comics@washpost.com) to share your reaction to The Post's comics-lineup changes.

Again.

Mark Trail gets to stay in print, over Judge Parker???!!!

The story and artwork looks like it was done in 30 years ago. Parker, fresher, better.

And, again, does the comics editor of the Post even bother to read these comics? Or look at them?

Catman: Do editors bother with such niceties in the rest of the paper? It's my belief that they are just managers now, reading and looking at content probably is out-sourced to ...

It looks like today's Zippy is saying farewell to the WaPo. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it....

>>Michael:

...outsourced to AP? Yeah, no doubt.

Someone posted your comics editor needs to see a proctologist. While they are vacation, I hope that happened.

Rusty appears to also have an old German made Zeiss camera, which he has retrofitted into a digital unit. Clever boy!

Save the Judge! Save the Pooch!

You're cancelling Judge Parker right before the girl-on-girl action starts!? What are you people thinking?

Hey!!!

IMHO, the artwork gaffe in Mark Trail today is just another example of how ignorant the Post management is. They should relegate Mr. Trail to online space. I don't think they even read the comics.

Cavna, please do something to wake up your comic editor(s) at the Post.

No gaffe -- just photo realism. The right arm must be out of focus and lost to the background. If it's not within your depth-of-focus, why draw it? Very creative!
