Coming Online: Free Tickets to 'Avatar's' IMAX Trailer
GEEK BUZZING...
News from across the transom of comics culture...
At San Diego Comic-Con, James Cameron excitedly shouted to the 6,000-some fanboys in cavernous Hall H that Aug. 21 would be an "Avatar" Day -- on which footage from his 3D film would show in IMAX theaters across the country.
Well now, the details for getting tickets to these IMAX trailers are in.
Free tickets will be distributed online starting Monday for the special 16-minute screenings, the Hollywood Reporter says. Fans will be given information at AvatarMovie.com. Fox says customers will be limited to two tickets each.
That same day, the standard non-IMAX "Avatar" trailers will hit theaters. The film opens nationally Dec. 18.
Said IMAX Filmed Entertainment honcho Greg Foster, perhaps with a shade of understatement: "I think it's going to be a bit of a stampede."

CREATE YOUR CHARACTER: The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is sending out a signal: Send them a superhero!
LACMA opens its exhibit "Heroes and Villains: The Battle for Good in India's Comics" in October. (The museum says the show "will draw connections between ancient Indian epics and contemporary India's booming comic book industry.")
As a walkup to the show, LACMA is eager to see your ideas -- characters and storyline -- for a superhero comic set in their fair city. Submissions (including a one-page synopsis of your storyline, character designs and/or storyboards) should be sent to unframed@lacma.org by Sept. 15; LACMA will post the best Oct. 19.
For information about submission formats, go to the LACMA blog.
