Last Call: The Beer-Summit Cartoons Runneth Over

By The Reliable Source

The a.m. roundup of newspaper cartoons, from ice-cream shops to the audacity of hops ...

When he reigns, it pours.

With Obama convening last week's "beer summit" as the First Bartender (someone strike up "Hail to the Barkeep"), the ink was flowing and the political cartoons -- all those caricatures of stippled tipplers -- kept pouring in.

Below are three more "beer summit" commentaries that caught my eye. That said, the Official 'Riffs Question of the Day is: Who drew the Best Beer-Summit Cartoon in the land? Your picks and links are invited.

SIGNE WILKINSON (Philadelphia Inquirer / courtesy of Washington Post Writers Group)

WHAT'S A 14-LETTER TITLE FOR "DIS-HUMOROUS"?: As I gaze across the comics page, the above is simply today's answer to the clue: "Something that is funnier than 'Frank and Ernest.' "

CABBAGE PATCH CONES: Dennis the Feckless -- or at least his "parents" -- apparently missed the news story several years ago about, yes, vegetable ice cream. In terms of shipping these: I'm sure Mr. Wilson would be quite happy to handle the arrangements.

C STREET-WISE: Any word yet from C Street over these "spiritual haven" cartoons? My prediction: These "Doonesbury's" are already on the home's community fridge, pinned under the "Visit the Appalachian Trail" refrigerator magnets.

SO PUNNY, IT'S HERTZ: Anyone care to predict what tomorrow's "Mother Goose" product placement will be? Snickers? Jiffy? Jolt or Orange Crush? ANYone?...

THE RIFFS INTERVIEW: "Mother Goose & Grimm" vs. "Juan Valdez -- the Lawsuit.

"FULL FRONTAL" LANGUAGE: Ban the "boob"?

The Cardow cartoon seems a little out of touch with the times, given that the Iranian VICE-President already got sacked for being too chummy with Israel.

I must be missing something; what's funny or at all interesting about that crossword? Or is this that "dry humor" I've heard so much about?

The best comment on the Beer Summit that I've seen so far comments on Obama's use of the media:
