An Open Note to COMEDY CENTRAL: Here's your next surefire cartoon hit:

By Michael Cavna

MEMO TO: The biggest suits, cheeses and kahunas at Comedy Central. And Sumner Redstone.
FROM: A longtime constituent.
RE: Your next big thing. Trust me. Can't miss, babe.

Comedy Central, we have your next animated hit.

It's got everything: It's funny. It's compelling. And it's obviously very cheap.

Now we're not talking costly half-hour comedies, the kind that Fox builds entire nights of programming around. This is not even "Drawn Together." No, these are topical hyper-shorts that could nestle squarely between, say, "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" -- quick little moments of comedy zen.

Did we mention they are apparently very, very cheap?

What we refer to is a foreign import that does not pretend to be well-crafted manga from Japan or glorious animation from a Korean studio. No, what belongs on good ol' American basic cable are the topical re-creations of celebrity news that air with regularity on Taiwanese TV.

Remember that subtitled, deliciously cheesy animation from last year that re-created the would-be events on Tiger Woods's SUV "drive" heard 'round the world? Or NMA World Edition's recent Gore or Palin animations? Well, Taipei has done it again, now re-creating the recent events of Lindsay Lohan's hairpin-turn life. And trust us, babe: It's like TMZ set to animation that boasts all the quality of an '80s paleolithic Dire Straits music video.

It's funny, it's sad, it's bizarre, it's compelling -- in short (literally), many of the qualities that make up Lohan's own fish-bowl, please-get-her-help existence. Why, it's even got Herbie the Love Bug. And somehow, the sometimes-typoed subtitles elevate the whole thing to a higher comedy.

Oh, and did we mention it's obviously very, very cheap?

So quick, take a meeting. Call the suits. Make programming magic happen, babe. Because if Comedy Central doesn't nab the American rights to this comedy gold, we know a TV show that would be smart to own these animated shorts.

Hello, get me TMZ's Harvey Levin on the mobile...

Here it is, the most shamelessly compelling animation of the week:

Adult Swim on Cartoon Network has been doing just this for at least a few months now. It is hard to to tell whether they are making the videos themselves or actually using the animations from Taiwan. They are using them for their promos during commercial breaks though.
