ANIMATION OF THE DAY: Does new 2-D Winnie-the-Pooh beat a 3-D Yogi Bear?

Who knew Milne and Keane could sound so right for each other?

The new trailer is out for next year's release of "Winnie the Pooh," and something about the warm 2-D rendering of Hundred Acre Wood and the lyrics to Keane's 2004 song "Somewhere Only We Know" makes them seem made for each other like a silly ol' bear to a smackerel of honey.

Mostly, we just welcome the decision to release "Pooh" in traditional-looking animation. As producer Peter Del Vecho told the AP this week: "We wanted to create a movie for the big screen that had the charm and wit of those original shorts. What originally endeared all of us -- adults and children -- to these characters was that they were stuffed animals that came to life in the imagination of a child. We wanted to rekindle that imagination in a big way."

When it come to big-screen bears, we can't help but compare the new "Pooh" to the latest trailer for December's slick "Yogi Bear," featuring the CGI'd Jellystone critters (Yogi voiced by Dan Aykroyd) interacting with live-action picnickers in 3-D.

Perhaps not even the vocal charms of Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo can rescue this one.
