When Hairy Beat 'Harry': 'TANGLED' tops Potter at the box office
Last weekend, the seventh Harry Potter edged "Tangled" at the box office by less than a half-million dollars. This weekend, Rapunzel got revenge.
Disney's animated fairy tale made $21.5-million at the domestic box office to easily beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1" ($16.7-million), according to estimates from boxofficemojo.com. The final numbers are expected Monday.
In its second weekend, "Tangled" -- featuring the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi -- has now grossed a total of $96.5-million domestically and $111-million globally. The musical's production budget was a reported $260-million.
The penultimate "Harry Potter" has now made $244-million domestically and $627-million worldwide.
A second animated film, "Megamind" made $5-million to finish sixth for the weekend; the DreamWorks picture -- featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt -- has now made $137-million on North American screens.
