ANIMATED PARODY OF THE DAY: 'The Simpsons' Meet Pixar
With the Oscars on the horizon, "The Simpsons" continues a season most inspired.
Into its fourth different decade, Fox's hit show -- led by executive producer Al Jean -- has especially unfurled great cross-art-form parodies in recent months. The animated landmark let Oscar-nominated street artist Banksy commandeer the show's "couch gag" opening this season, as sweat-shop moppets cranked out "Simpsons" geegaws; and the show used Katy Perry's cameo -- fresh off her "Sesame Street" rebuffing -- to spoof the kids' show in sultry CGI fashion.
On Sunday night, "The Simpsons" -- in a larger mocking of Hollywood awards shows -- parodies such fellow animated legends as Pixar and Nick Park.
Comic Riffs' Animated Parody of the Day is the "Simpsons" send-up titled "Condiments," from the good folks at Mixar -- as household foodstuffs stand in for "Toy Story" playthings, right down to the waffle that good-naturedly teases Pixar's syrupy-sweet sentimentality.
"Condiments" is going up against the likes of Bart Simpson's film, "Angry Dad: The Movie." Comic Riffs' runner-up for Animated Parody of the Day is the same show's "Better Gnomes & Gardens" clip, which deftly spoofs Nick Park's Aardman Studio claymation and "Wallace & Gromit." Favorite touch: The Nick Park cameo as he says to Lisa, who's just accidentally pulled off his fingers. "No worries, I just stick 'em back on. I'm more clay than man now."
WILLIS & CRUMBLE's "BETTER GNOMES AND GARDENS":
The episode also features cameos from the likes of repeat awards-host "offenders"Russell Brand and Ricky Gervais, as well as presenter Halle Berry.
