Photo Flashback: 'Oops' Edition

Parallel parking has never been easy. Just take a look at this photo taken in Washington in 1950:


This photo was taken by Post staffer Arthur Ellis and was printed in The Post on Sept. 26, 1950. The caption: AND THOSE WHO FAIL -- Examiner Donald White (at right) gets out of the auto of applicant who had made a hopeless attempt to park between the familiar stanchions, and hadn't made out too well in the rear.

The financially comfortable owner of that nearly new DeSoto (the upper-class cousin of the Plymouth)should have been able to hire a driving instructor to teach the secrets of parallel parking.
