Chambliss office admits gay slur; Chris Christie squashes heckler; Palin wants to shoot Democrats
An aide to Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) has contributed a thoughtful new argument to the debate over the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays in the military. The staffer's view: "All faggots must die."
This nuanced view was posted on a blog on gay and lesbian issues on Tuesday, just as Chambliss was on the Senate floor helping to block a proposal overturning the ban on service by openly gay men and lesbians. The posting was quickly traced to Chambliss's office, which did not admit responsibility for the message until Thursday.
The senator says he "won't tolerate" such sentiments, but is relying on the Senate Sergeant at Arms to locate the author of this fine staff work.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who describes himself as "pretty fat," isn't afraid to throw his weight around. He was out in California, doing an event in support of Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, when an activist named Ed Buck began heckling the candidate. Christie walked to within a few feet of the candidate, pointed at him, and lectured: "Lemme tell you this, you know what, it's people who raise their voices and yell and scream like you that are dividin' this country. We're here to bring this country together, not divide it." The heckler looked deflated.
On the topic of people who "bring this country together," let's check in on Sarah Palin's latest. SarahPAC has put up a new website targeting 20 House Democrats for defeat. Really targeting them: Their districts are shown in rifle crosshairs on a map. Click, and you'll get the names of the Democratic lawmakers Palin would shoot, along with those Republicans who would take the place of those who had been shot. A red "X" appears next to those Democrats who have already lost or retired.
As Saxby Chambliss's office might say: All Democrats must die.
