Cars stolen while running in Alexandria

By Allison Klein

Alexandria police say six cars have been stolen this year in the city while they were left unattended and running.

Most of them were taken from apartment complex parking lots, but a few were stolen while parked on the street. In all of the cases, the vehicles were left running by drivers who were warming them up in the cold weather, police said. Two of the cars have been recovered.

Police warn that it is not good practice to leave your car running if you are not inside.

The cars were stolen from these locations: the 800 Block of Four Mile Road, 5700 Block of Edsall Road, 300 Block of S. Van Dorn Street, 1600 Block of N. Quaker Lane, 400 Block of North Armistead Street and 4300 Block of Duke Street.
