Ex-DASH worker charged with embezzlement
A former Alexandria DASH employee was charged with stealing $30,000 from the transit company over the weekend.
Jean Stokes, 50, a six-year employee of Transit Management of Alexandria, was charged with one felony count of embezzling funds from the Old Town Transit Shop she managed. She turned herself in Sunday when the warrant was issued.
Stokes resigned January.25. In her resignation letter to the director, she admitted stealing money, authorities said. An investigation of the shop’s daily deposits was immediately launched by Alexandria police.
The city hired an independent public accounting firm to conduct an audit and review the Old Town Transit Shop’s accounting practices.
