Child pedestrian struck in Northwest

A child pedestrian was hit by a car at 14th and Upshur streets NW Wednesday morning, according to a tweet from the D.C. fire department.
Emergency responders transported the girl, who is between 10 and 12 years old, to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Please provide an update on the child's condition and how the accident happened - word of mouth information is all I am getting. The dog taken from the pound has gotten lots of coverage.
