Man poses as NFL player, steals $500: police

A man who posed as a Cincinnati Bengals football player at a D.C. nightclub stole $500 from a woman in a scam, according to police.

The man, Maurice Carter, 29, was held without bail at a hearing in D.C. Superior Court Tuesday morning. Carter met the woman on Jan. 11 at Eden nightclub, where she had "mingled with" Baltimore Ravens Player Willis McGahee, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

As she walked to her car after leaving the club, in the 1700 block of I St NW, a man approached her and introduced himself as Bengals player Maurice Cartier.

The two went out to eat at an IHOP in Alexandria, and during the meal, Carter got several phone calls he claimed were from McGahee, according to the affidavit.

After the meal, Carter said he left his wallet "in the limo" and asked the victim if he could borrow $500 from her for a hotel room, the affidavit says. He said he'd give her $1,000 when he got his wallet back, she told police.

She went to an ATM and withdrew the money, then once back in her car, had second thoughts about giving it to him, she told police.

That was when Carter "wrestled her out of the vehicle by force by grabbing her left arm and torso while she clung to the steering wheel. He then entered the vehicle and stole the $500 from the seat," the affidavit says.

Carter was arrested Jan 28.

A crime is a crime, but seriously:

How many kinds of stupid was this woman? Let me count the ways...

Sometimes you pay for what you get.

That's what happens when a gold diggers who's trying to take someone gets "took." Good for her! She better be glad that's all he stole from her. She probabbly knew absolutely nothing about football. IHOP and a hotel room for $500? Yea right, and I got some oceanfront property to sell you in DC too? LOL! What a trick!

Well at least you have to give this criminal high marks for creativity.
Never an excuse for putting his hands on a woman though.
That being said, $500 for IHOP and a hotel room? Does that even seem reasonable? And his promise to give her $1,000...you can't tell me she wasn't hoping to cash in on the situation a bit.
