Md. man charged in string of robberies

Anne Arundel County police have arrested a man accused in a string of armed robberies near a Glen Burnie shopping center in recent months.

Leslie Tyrell, 25, of Glen Burnie, was arrested in a parking lot near the East Park Plaza Shopping Center Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The Anne Arundel County police department had added extra patrols in the area after five sporadic reports of gunpoint robberies came in beginning in May.

In the most recent incident on the night of July 3, Tyrell accosted a man at gunpoint as he walked along a dirt path behind an Exxon gas station, police said. Tyrell demanded cash, and the victim complied, police said. A search of the area with a canine team failed to turn up the suspect.

Tyrell was charged with five counts of armed robbery and related charges.

Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to call 410-222-6145.
