Slain Maryland inmate identified
Maryland State Police on Tuesday named Blas Ramon Mata Aguilar, 41, as the inmate found slain Feb. 2 in his cell at the Western Correctional Institution in Cresaptown, near Cumberland.
According to the state prison officials, he had been jailed since 2004 and was serving an 11-year sentence for sexual assault and other charges. State court records show him convicted of rape in Montgomery County in 2005 and of assaulting a state prison employee in a 2007 case filed by the state in Anne Arundel Circuit Court.
His identity had been withheld pending notification of relatives and was released after state police said they located his ex-wife and daughter in New York state.
His death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy and Maryland State Police continue an investigation into his killing.
