Man who wore Redskins cap in Md. bank hit suspected in Va. robbery

A Redskins-capped man police say tried to rob a Montgomery County bank in mid-April tried again later in the month -- and succeeded, this time in Arlington, according to authorities, though without the cap.

Montgomery County police say a man robbed the HSBC bank located at 4075 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington on April 23, according to a press release.

The suspect entered the bank carrying a black bag that he placed on the counter, according to police, and told a teller to give him money. He then jumped onto the counter, police said, and took money from the teller's drawer even as the teller handed him some. He fled on foot on WIlson Boulevard, police said.

Police believe the Arlington robbery was committed by the same man who entered the M&T Bank at 8521 Colesville Rd. in Silver Spring on April 9. In that case, he approached a teller and passed a note demanding cash, police said. The teller told a manager, and the man left without displaying a weapon or obtaining money.

After the first incident, Montgomery police described the man as a white male in his 40s, 5-foot-8 and weighing 160 pounds. He had a full beard and wore a Redskins cap and a black jacket.

In Arlington, police said, he wore a tan or light green fishing-style hat, dark glasses, hip-length tan or light light green coat, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He has a tattoo on his write arm with dark graphics on it, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 240-773-5100. Callers who want to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
