Toddler injured in Arlington car accident

Arlington County police are investigating an accident that caused serious injuries to a toddler Thursday morning on Lee Highway.

Police said a man, whose name they have not released, was crossing Lee Highway near North Culpeper Street when a vehicle's side-view mirror clipped him as the vehicle drove past.

Police said the toddler also was injured but did not have specifics. Both were taken to an area hospital with injuries, and Lee Highway was closed temporarily for the investigation.

Det. Crystal Nosal, a police spokeswoman, said the driver of the vehicle stopped and cooperated with police. There are traffic lights at North Culpeper Street as well as crosswalks on all sides of the intersection, but it was unclear whether the man and the toddler were in a crosswalk or whether they were crossing against traffic.

There have been no charges filed as a result of the incident, Nosal said.
