Va. woman, 89, hit by bus, dies
An 89-year-old Falls Church woman died Monday night after she was hit by an Arlington County school bus earlier in the day.
Arlington County police said Louise Gabel was struck by a school bus driving along its normal morning route at about 7:30 a.m.
The bus turned at the intersection of Carlin Springs Road and South 8th Road and struck Gabel.
There were 12 children on the bus at the time of the crash, and none of them were injured, police said. The bus and its driver remained on the scene, and Gabel was taken to an area hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash and have not yet publicly identified the school bus driver.
