Ariz. sheriff uses bike power to run prison TVs
An Arizona sheriff has installed stationary bikes in a prison that power televisions, according to this report:
Sheriff [Joe] Arpaio says that half of his inmates are overweight, and that this is a way for them to get in shape while enjoying their favorite past-time -- TV.
The stationary bike, when pedaled, generates 12 volts of electricity, which powers the 19-inch television inside the viewing area.
One hour of pedaling powers one hour of TV viewing.
