Woman caught with pot in kids' toy bag: Police
Delaware State Police say a 38-year-old Newark woman hid marijuana from authorities in her nieces' toy bag.
Alice VanDyke was stopped early Saturday after police say her car swerved on Kirkwood Highway.
Police say the trooper smelled alcohol on VanDyke's breath and saw a six-pack of beer on the passenger seat and two empty cans on the floor. VanDyke's nieces, ages 4 and 6, were in the back.
All three were taken to Troop 6, where police say VanDyke failed a field sobriety test. While the girls waited for their parents, police say the desk officer saw suspected marijuana in the girls' toy bag and one girl said her aunt put it there.
VanDyke is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child involving DUI, possession of marijuana, drunken driving and other offenses.
