Doctor shot in Md. recovering: Family

The family of a Johns Hopkins doctor shot by a patient's son has issued a statement saying the surgeon is in good condition and asking for privacy during his recovery.

The family of Dr. David Cohen issued the statement Monday, saying they appreciate the outpouring of support and concern.

The family says it is important their time and energy now be focused on Cohen's recovery.

Cohen was shot in the abdomen last week. Police say the gunman, 50-year-old Paul Warren Pardus, became distraught after Cohen delivered news of his mother's condition.

After shooting the doctor, police say Pardus shot and killed his mother, then himself.
