Three Baltimore officers charged with kidnapping teens

A Baltimore grand jury has returned an indictment against three city police officers, charging them with kidnapping of two teenagers last year.

The State's Attorney's Office says the grand jury returned the 14-count indictments on Tuesday.

The officers are 32-year-old Milton Smith, 29-year-old Tyrone Francis and 30-year-old Gregory Hellen. All three were assigned to the violent crimes impact division.

Authorities say the three were on a crime suppression detail in West Baltimore on May 4, 2009. In separate incidents, they allegedly picked two 15-year-olds and took them in a police van. They released one in East Baltimore and one in Howard County.

Police department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the three were suspended with pay after the incident, and will be suspended without pay after charges are filed.
