Two teens shot in Calvert gang fight

Two teenagers were shot and seriously injured Wednesday in Calvert County after an argument between rival gang members became violent, police said.

The argument turned to rock throwing, which turned to a 2 a.m. game of chicken on Bowie Trail in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates, said Lt. Steve Jones, commander of criminal investigations for the Calvert County Sheriff's Office. And after a car and an SUV collided near Bowie Court, someone in the SUV produced a handgun and started firing, leaving 19-year-old Justin Gibson with a gunshot wound to the hand and a 17-year-old Kevin Accord with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Both teens' injuries were serious, but they were expected to live, police said.

The suspects in the SUV — Marquis Angelo Glover,16, Aris Xavier Curtis, 19, and Trevon Nakeem Benjamin,17, all of Lusby — were later arrested on Six Gun Circle and charged as adults with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault and associated weapons violations, police said.

They told investigators that they had been shot at, and that two other vehicles were involved, but police found no evidence to substantiate their claims, Jones said. In subsequent search warrants, police recovered three handguns, including two that likely were in the SUV at the time of the shooting, Jones said.

The incident is unusual in Calvert County, though Jones said it is emblematic of a budding gang population there and an ongoing feud between two gangs. He said detectives with the Southern Maryland Information Center, a regional task force that gathers gang intelligence, were instrumental in helping identify who was involved in Wednesday’s shooting. The gang members, Jones said, also are under investigation for other burglaries, assaults, armed robberies and drug and firearm violation.

What's this?? Marquis, Aris Xavier, and Trevon Nakeem - all semi-finalists in the "Silly Name" contest, were arrested on "Six Gun Circle" after deciding to shoot a couple of people for the fun of it.

At least they knew where they belonged: Six Gun Circle.

What a waste of protoplasm!

P.G., Fairfax, Montgomery, Calvert - our teens are getting dumber by the day. Lil sissy boys with dreads wearing tight jeans, scared to fight, but ready to shoot, playing a game of chicken. Let's see who becomes the chicken when they hit the cell block.

The middle class can run but cannot hide from the "elements" in the DC area. Only the most exclusive neighborhoods where houses are near or past a million can one find refuge from these type of people and their ghetto culture.

Those aged 18-20 are also adults and not "kids" or "teens", meaning they shouldn't be called those words. This article should've been titled "Young man and boy shot in Calvert gang fight". The young man is that and not a "teen". It's good that the young man and boys in the car have been arrested.
