Woman dies 10 days after hit-and-run
A 22-year-old Silver Spring woman died Tuesday of injuries sustained about 10 days ago when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.
Danny Elizabeth Alay-Mateo, of the 9100 block of September Lane, died Tuesday morning, officials said.
Police found Alay-Mateo injured on Sept. 24 after she was struck about 8 p.m. in the northbound lane of the 8700 block of Carroll Avenue, in the Piney Branch area.
Police did not have a definitive description of the vehicle, but said it was dark colored, possibly a GMC Jimmy, a Chevy S-10 pickup truck, Chevy Blazer or Oldsmobile Bravada.
Police said the vehicle lost its passenger-side exterior mirror in the crash and might have other damage on the same side. Anyone with information is asked to call the Montgomery County police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
