Duo charged in Md. BB gun spree

Dan Morse

The two suspects aren't accused of killing -- or even hurting -- anyone, but to 57 automobile owners who had their windows shot out recently, the two men represent a rather high level of aggravation.

Mariano Vilchis, 29, and Raul Molina, 22, both of Montgomery County, were each charged with 53 counts of malicious destruction of property less than $500 and four counts of malicious destruction of property more than $500, police said Monday.

Reports of the window shootings first surfaced on Aug. 3, police said. Responding officers spoke to car owners, and obtained a suspect car description: Black Honda Civic SI, tinted windows, sport-style rims, loud exhaust.

The car was spotted along Demetrias Way in Germantown, police said, and officers spotted the handles of two BB gun pistols on protruding from under the front passenger seat.

After checking the car's registration, the officers visited the owner, Vilchis. Police said they were given permission to search the Honda, and found "numerous BB guns, a BB rifle, BB ammunition, and other types of BB gun paraphernalia."

Officers interviewed Vilchis and Molina that night, told them charges were pending and released them. More investigation implicated them in more shot-out windshields. The two were charged in the 57 cases on Friday.

Both men have since been released from jail on $10,000 bond, police said. Online court records indicate neither has retained an attorney for their trials scheduled next month.

Neither man could be reached for comment. A telephone number listed for Vilchis was not in service on Monday. A number for Molina couldn't immediately be located.

Only $10,000 bond ? Ten percent of that is $1000.00 dam dollars for their release ! Tell me why would they come back to court next month for their trials ??

Shame that when the police lock them up, they cant check on their immigration status.

Looks like neither will have the funding to pay for the replacement of 57 windows, so who gets stuck w/ the bill?? Thats right John & Jane Public Citizen.

I think they were both just upset about the decline of their male modeling careers.

"Black Honda Civic SI, tinted windows, sport-style rims, loud exhaust."

What kind of m0rons trick out an economy car? A Honda Civic no less.

When I began reading this story I was expecting to read that the perps were 14 year olds. The fact that one of these guys is pushing 30 and the other is 22 is pathetic. These guys need to spend more energy trying to get laid and less time playing with toy guns.

illegal aliens

do they own or work for a car window business?

Once had a situation where i left a restaurant/bar get to my car and find the entire side of the street had the side mirrors ripped off or broken. it's a horrible feeling to see your car vandalized for no apparent reason other than people being destructive.

Can we get back to the time where the punishment factored in stupidity? One damn near 30 years old and the other 22, this is well beyond a childish prank.

I feel very sorry for the victims who will have to replace windowes out of pocket due to insurance deductibles etc adding to their economic hardship. Even if it cost 500 dollars to replace few windows of a car multiply that with 57 known cases of broken windows that adds up to almost 30 grand. That is almost years salary for some poor people in this country. It's pathetic they will only be fined few hundred dollars and few weeks in Jail. Victims should sue them for damages so other wanabe's get a lesson. Also what if these vehicles were occupied or a child was inside etc, it would have caused bodily damage.

Even though I would love to see them get stoned in public, I wonder why I see comments on here about their citizenship? Just because they are Hispanic doesn't mean they are here illegally, people. If a blackman gets arrested do you ask if he is here from Africa illegally? If a white man gets arrested is he here from England illegally?

Posted by: PublicEnemy1 | August 16, 2010 5:10 PM | Report abuse

To you donks that constantly harp on immigration, would it matter if these were white guys who shot out YOUR windows? Would that somehow be less egregious? Would your insurance rates not be affected or not be raised because some white boy committed the offense instead of these tards?

I guarantee, you walk out to your car and see your ride vandalized, you won't give two $h1ts about race

Will that fix the windows? Or make you feel better about being a racist if they are illegal? Maybe if they are itailian we can check to see if they are in the mob. If they are black see if they can rap and play basketball and sell drugs all at the same time. If they are asian we can check to see if they are running a brothel above their carryout. If they are Irish make sure they are not drunk and beating their wives. And of course if they are arab or anyone that looks like arab if they are members of a terrorist group. I know I missed a couple of groups for you but thats all I could think of. I hope I covered most of the racist stereotypes for you.

Dear WaPo, you are brave enough to publish secret US government douments putting at risk our foreign policy (such that it is), our faith with our allies, and our soldiers. But you aren't brave enough to finish your own news story with information on the most current and newsworthy topic; whether these two "Hispanic" (spanish speaking I assume) idiots are illegal aliens and whether they are sponging off this nation while shooting up windshields.

So WaPo, did the police apprehend two illegals shooting at Americans and let them go for a bond?

Oh by the way, had one of those pellets hit an eye, there could be dead folk out there on the roadways.

I read these post and wonder why people are against the Arizona law?

"A telephone number listed for Vilchis was not in service on Monday. A number for Molina couldn't immediately be located."

So police let two men go who had been shooting up moving cars...and they don't know what their phone numbers are? Will WaPo follow up with this story to see if they jump bond? I'm betting they do and are probably in Los Angeles by now. Any takers?

This is truly a case that screams for a public caning of the culprits, if found guilty. Five lashes anywhere on the body for each shattered window. Get one of those big, brawny, muscular guys to do the caning. Have the caner wear black pants and no shirt with a black hood over his head and let him just get busy. Since these men acted like boys, let's just give them a real good beatin.

You ever see one of those hispanic westerns. Man oh man they shoot & shoot & shoot & shoot & shoot & shoot & shoot & shoot.

This is not a racial/immigration issue. Saw this on the channel 7 news at 5 p.m. and I agree with one of the victims. She said the two, if convicted, should have to pay for all damages. RESTITUTION!!! Make 'em pay for their crimes...literally PAY!

There is more than names and ethnicity to support conjecture these men are immigrants, perhaps illegal. Will all the self-righteous posters screaming "racism" renounce their accusation if, in fact, it proves quite true that these men are in the country unlawfully? No, I think they enjoy screaming the words "racist" and "racism" too much....

Why do we ask if they are here illegally? Because we have enough idiots of our own to take care of. We don't need someone else's problem.

Sanctuary policies give you sanctuary problems.........

I am sure their mothers are saying "these are good boys and my son would never do that". If they have not yet left the area..they should be held responsible for repairing every car they damaged. It makes me sick that these jerks can get away with all of this damage.

On top of both being fined and made to pay restitution, Vilchis should have his ride confiscated, and fined an extra $1000. After he pays the fine, he gets his car back, squished down into a compact cube.
